What's been happening?

Viking Fans, hard to believe Homecoming is NEXT week!

We have had several fans request it, so we are going to pre-sale tickets for all home games for Varsity football. Hopefully, we can cut down on the lines at the stadium and everyone can get in, get seated, and get loud!

You can purchase football tickets before game night for all the varsity home football games. The prices remain the same at the gate, but you will be able to enter the stadium without standing in line. All district pass holders, senior pass holders, and ticket holders may enter at the PASS table.

Pre-sale tickets will be sold in the administration office M-Th 8am-4pm and on game day Friday until noon.

Ticket prices:

$5 for Adults

$3 for Students

LVHS Random Drug testing - Not just for students in uil!

Did you know that ANYONE can sign up their son or daughter to be part of the random drug testing at LVHS? At a time when the power of peer pressure is never higher, students who have the excuse of "I might get drug tested", have an out when put in a difficult situation with drugs and alcohol.

Read the entire policy here:

Add your student to the random pool by contacting Mr. Walker at

Quick note from Mr. Walker:

1. Get to class on time.

2. Vehicle better have a parking pass.

3. Slow down in the parking lot, this isn’t a Nascar track.

4. Be nice to each other.

5. That is all.

Calling all ANW's!

This year's Practical Writing 1 class is working with the theme of "American Ninja Writers." If you have any contacts with people involved with the TV show "American Ninja Warrior" who might be interested in coming to talk to our kids to inspire them to succeed in their quest for STAAR success, please contact Mr. Garcia at

Information from our counselor, Mrs. Sneed!

First, SENIORS . . .
You still have time to sign up for the ACT test that we will be administering here at LVHS on September 24th (yes, that's a Saturday). Bring your $54.50 to the guidance office, to Mrs. Becker, or to Mrs. Chapman. We will add your name to the list and give you some prep material.

If you haven't started your application on ApplyTexas yet, get started this weekend. It takes a little while to complete. Most college deadlines are December 1st, but you need to set November 1st, or before, as your target to get all of your information in.

If you need a transcript sent to one of the colleges, please use the request form. You can find the link on the LVHS website under Counselor Corner or we have copies in the guidance office.

Next, let's talk about recommendation letters. Check with the colleges you're interested in to see how many they are requiring. Fill out the Brag Sheet (you can find it under the Counselor Corner tab/Recommendations) and give it to those people that know your character and work ethic to assist them in writing your letter.

Juniors, Sophomores, & Freshmen . . . I haven't forgotten you! I appreciate you filling out the Request to See Counselor forms and the many emails. I plan to be back in the cafeteria during lunches to answer your questions very soon.

Parent Training on Canvas!

Wednesday 9/28 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MAC, Mr. Mathisen will be having a technology training session for parents of high school students. We will discussing Canvas, our Learning Management System, and general iPad information. Please attend to find out how to set up Observer View in Canvas and other gems, such as how to enact parent controls and best practices to combat device addiction. Hope to see you there.

Referrals for Fall G/T Screening are Due October 3rd!

Please return referral forms to the front office by Monday, October 3rd. There is a separate screening process for kindergarten, so referrals are not needed for students who are current in kindergarten. For more information, please visit

important attendance information!

Be sure you are aware of the consequences for your student missing too much school:

3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period - warning letter sent home.

7 or more unexcused absences in a 6-month period - warning letter sent home and Behavior Intervention Plan meeting called with the parents, student, and assistant principal.

10 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period - truancy charges are filed. Parent, student and school administrator will be summoned to appear in truancy court.

Our campus goal is to reach 96% attendance each day. If a student is at school at 10:15 am, we receive funding for that student for that day. If they are not, we do not receive funding. For this reason, we ask that you plan all non-medical absences from school for times after 10:15 am.

Weird, but true, attendance fact: If your student is present for any part of the school day and leaves for a medical appointment, they won't get counted absent for that day as long as they bring a note. If they are absent for the entire day for a doctor's appointment, they will be counted absent.

Thanks for your support!
