CONGRATULATIONS TO MODEL UN TEAM!
On Friday, November 20th the FSAPS Model UN Team competed in the Centennial High School MiniMUN competition.
It is inspiring to see our students working and behaving like young delegates, showing decorum and following rules of procedure as they debate and propose realistic solutions for some of the major issues facing our world today.
All of our students performed admirably and had a terrific time while learning more about the world and practicing real diplomacy with students from other local teams. I am proud to announce that FSAPS students received recognition in each of the award categories:

United States Christina Wang Best Position Paper

Warm Gloves and Socks Charity Drive
It is an awful truth that many people, even in our community, are victims of violence. Often times these people seek help from local organizations.
Family Haven, an organization in Forsyth County, offers safe shelter and needed items, for free to those in need. We can help them help others, by donating.
Cold winter weather is quickly approaching. Many people are in need of warm gloves and socks.
Make a difference in someone’s life.
Be kind and generous and bring in one or more pair of gloves and/or socks. Together we can help.
Your donations can be dropped off at the front office or your child can give them to his/her homeroom teacher.
We will accept donations until December 16th.

Kindergarten Thanksgiving Show
On Wednesday, November 18th Ms. Fichter and Mrs. James' Kindergarten classes had a Thankful Feast. Families and friends came to join their Kindergarteners for a fun performance and some delicious food! During our feast, our two kindergarten classes performed 4 different Thanksgiving songs, and one very silly Turkey Time dance. A special “Thank You” to Mrs. Peacock for teaching the song “Autumn Leaves are Falling Down.” Students were able to show off their hand-made place mats, banner, and head bands. Students enjoyed the company of their guests during the feast. It was a very exciting and special day in Kindergarten at FSAPS

MANDATORY Essay Contest
The 2015 - 2016 theme is: Ten Days, Ten Weeks, Ten Months, Ten Hours: What Can YOU Accomplish?
No other generation has experienced the fast-paced growth we experience today. We are truly living in a technological era where we are constantly scrambling for the next big thing and the latest idea. What goals will you create to keep up in this quick moving world? How will this fast-paced growth shape you? What type of person will you become? Today is the era where creating one phone app can make a 14-year-old a millionaire….So the question begs to be asked….What will YOU accomplish?
All 6th through 8th grade students are required to enter this writing contest. The deadline is December 4 and will be submitted online. Ms. Harbin and Ms. Outler will be talking about this with the students further.
Six Flags Read to Suceed
If your child is in kindergarten through 6th grade, they are invited to participate in Six Flags' Read to Succeed Program! It is a fun incentive to get kids to read. Students need to record and log their reading over the next few months. If they submit a log with 6 hours of reading on it by Wednesday, February 24, 2016, they will receive one free ticket to Six Flags Over Georgia!
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Only students in grades K through 6 are eligible to participate
- Review the reading log provided by your child's language arts teacher. Your child should use this sheet to record what and how long he/she reads
- Your child must complete 6 hours (360 minutes) of recreational reading
- Please initial each entry and then sign the reading log to verify that the 6 hours of reading has been completed
- Your child can read books, magazines, newspapers, or comic books (digital or hard copy). Reading for homework or a class assignment does NOT count!
- Students can read silently, aloud, or with an adult - you can read to your child, or your child can read to you.
- Remind your child to return the reading log to his/her language arts teacher by Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Your child's teacher will submit your child's information and minutes read.
- Late entries will NOT be accepted
Please be reminded... AR quizzes will only be taken during school. I know in the past, students could take quizzes at home. This year, students will only be allowed to take quizzes during the school day.
There are plenty of opportunities for students to take AR tests during the week, as the teachers can check out the IPAD carts or take their class to use the computers in the media center.
If your child reaches their goal by reading, taking, and passing the amount of AR quizzes assigned by their language arts teacher by the end of November, they will receive a dress down day at the end of the month for reaching their AR goal :)
Thank you for following these rules, Ms. P
Social Studies Fair
Fulton Science Academy has been very successful at all levels of the Social Studies Fair, with students taking first place in the state competition three times.
This year we are excited to be able to once again extend the project due date a bit so that it does not coincide quite as much as the Science Far. There will be checkpoints this semester, but the final paper and visuals will be due at the beginning of next semester rather than before the holiday break. It is our hope that this removes some of the burden and allows students to achieve their full potential on both projects.
Important due dates to note:
12/08/15 - research complete
01/06/16 - paper due
01/12/16 - visual due
01/20/16 - school fair

- Please use the carpool line and do not enter the lobby just to pick up your child.
- Please observe the no texting and speed limit signs on campus and be aware that the speed limit on Fanfare Way is 25 miles per hour.
- Plan ahead, early pick up must be before 3 pm. Teachers need to focus on their end of the day procedures with their whole class and cannot be packing up individual students after 3 pm, unless there is a real emergency.
- Please do not tell your children to meet you outside the main entrance. Our staff are not able to watch your child walk safely to your parked vehicle.
- Please do not plan on picking up your child during club time, some of which have wait lists. Our clubs are taken very seriously by our coaches and constant interruptions and part time attendance is frowned upon.
- Do not expect to gain access to a locked classroom for a forgotten item after 3:30 pm, or back into the school after 6 pm.
Thank you for helping make the dismissal process as streamlined as possible for us all.

Bricks and Flags
Having your name and message etched onto a brick is the perfect way to be remembered at FSA forever. Add your name to become an integral part of our school site.
Brick donations can be purchased any time for $300-$500 depending on location. Your brick purchase will support a general fund to help pay for gym bleachers.
Buy a Commemorative brick and help improve our new school!
The Parent Volunteer Organization and Student Council of Fulton Science Academy Private School invite you to become a permanent part of our new campus by purchasing a commemorative brick for the front entrance. Brick purchases make a great way for you to support our school while celebrating our students for years to come.
Engrave your brick with your family name, a student name or even a favorite quote.
Engraved bricks make a wonderful way for grandparents and relatives to contribute to the school as well.
Leave a lasting legacy while making a tax deductible donation to Fulton Science Academy Private School! FSAPS is a 501(c)(3) organization, so your contribution may be tax-deductible. FSAPS administration has the final right to approve names/messages on bricks. All proceeds benefit FSAPS students, staff, and school.
There are three donation amounts for brick purchases. All bricks are 4x8 and can include three lines of text up to 18 characters per line.
This is a great opportunity to leave a mark at your school. If you wish to participate, PLEASE CLICK HERE.
Flags from around the world can be hung representing our students/families countries of origin for $75. See our display in the cafeteria.
STATE TAX CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Dear FSA Families,
We would like to inform you about State Tax Credit Scholarship Program.
First of all, to get a quick overview of the program, please watch the video below.
The Education Expense Tax Credit program provides an opportunity for taxpayers to redirect Georgia tax dollars to provide financial aid assistance to FSA students.
How can this tax credit benefit both Fulton Science Academy Private School and myself?
Under this law, you can redirect a portion of your Georgia income tax amount to provide financial aid assistance to FSA students based on need. You will receive a tax credit on your state income taxes and a charitable deduction on your federal incomes taxes for the amount of your contribution. For married couples filing jointly, the maximum tax credit-eligible contribution is $2,500 ($1,000 as an individual).
Here’s how it works:
- Georgia taxpayers can make a contribution within statutory limits to a state approved student scholarship organization (SSO). FSAPS partners with Apogee Scholarship Fund.
- The state of Georgia will then issue you an income tax credit in the full amount of your contribution.
- The SSO qualifies as a charity for federal income tax purposes. Therefore, contributions made through this program generate a charitable deduction for taxpayers who itemize their returns.
The amount you may contribute depends upon your tax filing status:
- Single individual or head of household – any amount up to $1,000
- Married couple filing a joint return – any amount up to $2,500
- Married couple filing a separate return – any amount up to $1,250
- S corporation shareholder, LLC member, or partnership partner – any amount up to $10,000
- C corporation or Trust – any amount up to 75% of annual Georgia income tax liability
- AMT filers, GA state tax liability is not deductible on the federal return. Therefore, redirected taxes are converted into charitable contribution on the federal tax return.
- For example, an AMT filer who redirects $2,500 through the program, receives $700 (28%) in additional tax benefit on their federal return and reduces state tax liability by $2,500 on GA state return.
Why give now:
The state of Georgia has placed an annual cap on the total amount of tax credits that may be awarded through this program. This limited number of tax credits will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. With the increase in popularity of the program the funds are claimed on the first day of program in January. Once the funds are used up, you will have to wait until next year to participate in the program.
The state anticipates that once again 2016's $58 million in tax credits will be claimed during the first day of the program on January 4th. Payment is due 60 days after Department of Revenue approval is processed beginning January 4. If you apply now, your donation will probably be approved in late January and you will be given 60 days to pay your donation, so you will be paying sometime around March to pay the amount.
How to Participate in the Tax Credit Program
Paperless – It’s fast and easy!
Click HERE to complete the electronic form through the Apogee website.
It is especially GREAT, if businesses support this program because their donation limits are much higher.
Please remember that after submitting your State Tax Credit Scholarship Program Donation, you may also inform your company, and claim matching gift donation for Fulton Science Academy Private School. This matching donation can NOT be used to pay tuition but it is another great way to support our school as donation.
Please pass this information to your friends, colleagues, neighbors, relatives, businesses and so on as well. This is an incredible opportunity to support FSAPS. It benefits you and it benefits your school.
Finally, please be informed that any FSA family attending this program will be given five dress down days for their children and a chance to win a $500 cash prize.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
