Athletics Corner
It’s been a busy week getting caught up on games!!
Both junior teams lost a super close, well-fought match against St Theresa yesterday. That wraps up junior league play, and play offs start next Tuesday! The junior girls will play at home at 4 PM, although we’re not sure yet who they will match up against. Junior boys will play away – time and location TBD. Stay tuned for updates on these games via Instagram and our school’s athletics calendar!
Senior girls beat CLB and FTV this week, clinching the first-place spot as they head into playoffs!! Way to go girls!! The senior boys lost a close game to CLB and both teams take on FRH TODAY for the final league game. Play off seeding for senior boys depends on how they do tonight, so come cheer on your favorite Cougars at 4 and 5 PM at FRH! The play off schedule should be available in the next few days, so stay tuned for updates 😊

2022-2023 School Fees will be posted before the end of September
School fees for the 2022-2023 school year are posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. Throughout the year, fees are often added to cover the costs for various activities, such as field trips, extracurricular activities, and late, damaged or lost textbooks.
To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view fees and pay them online using a credit card. Make sure to monitor your child’s account on an ongoing basis.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit eips.ca/schools/fees. And, if you have questions, think there is an error or need help creating a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, contact your child’s school directly.
NOTE: Pursuant to Board Policy 23: School Fees and Administrative Procedure 505: School and Administrative Fees, EIPS will forward any unpaid 2021-22 fee amounts to a collection agency. To prevent this from happening, remember to pay your fees before August 31, 2022.
Canteen Volunteers and Menu
Canteen Volunteers (Updated Nov. 18)
Volunteering for shifts in our SWH Canteen with Mrs. Braun is an excellent way to help prepare our students for the world of work. These opportunities help students build confidence, increase skill range, and feel successful as they work towards entering post-secondary or the workforce.
Canteen Menu
Our canteen is now open with a variety of fun foods and snacks to purchase. We also have brought back the use of microwaves in the hallways during the first half of lunch. We ask that students wait in line patiently and be respectful with your peers and the microwaves.
NEW Additions to our Canteen Menu AND Pizza Thursdays!!
Also, we have now added Pizza Thursdays to our weekly lunch options! Choices are: cheese, pepperoni and ham & pineapple. First come, first served!
Bon Appetit!
With the winter season almost here, we want to remind families to dress children appropriately for the weather when getting ready for school or the bus. The weather often changes unexpectedly throughout the day, so please select suitable outerwear and ensure your child is prepared for changing conditions.
If inclement weather conditions occur, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) advises families of any bus cancellations using various communications tools—automated-telephone messages, alerts posted on www.eips.ca and school websites, Twitter, Facebook, local radio stations, and notification through both the Bus Status and the Ride 360 apps. Morning bus cancellations are posted on www.eips.ca by 6:30 a.m.
Decisions regarding bus cancellations are guided by EIPS administrative procedures that state, “school bus service may be suspended…when there is a forecast or current temperature of -40 C, including wind chill factor, in one or more regions.” Other reasons for suspending or delaying school bus services include adverse weather and poor road conditions. When school bus services are suspended, schools remain open to students. EIPS believes families have the right and responsibility to make choices for their children based on their beliefs and perceptions of safety during times of inclement weather.
For more information, contact EIPS Student Transportation at 780-417-8151.
