One Body in Christ: Our Spiritual Theme
Rights and Responsibilities
In November and December, we are asked to reflect on the principle of Catholic Social Teaching which reminds us that all people have rights and responsibilities. We invite you to contemplate the following scriptural passages: Matthew 25: 31-46 – Judgement of the Nations & Luke 16:19-31 – The Rich Man and Lazarus.
Spiritual Reflection
By Sheila O’Callaghan
As our new week begins on November 6, we have a special gift; Daylight Savings Time ends. This means we set our clocks back one hour. It is nice to have an extra hour of sleep!
On November 7, Marie Curie was born. She was a great Polish scientist. She had to study and work very hard because many people did not think women were smart enough to understand science. She showed them. She received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903 and the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1911. She and her husband discovered the element radium. God can work wonders. He can work with women as well as men.
In the year 1789, Father John Carroll was named the first Catholic bishop of the United States. The whole country was called the Diocese of Baltimore because Maryland was then the middle of the country.
On November 9, we celebrate the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica. The Basilica of St. John Lateran is the oldest church and Christian basilica in the city of Rome. It is considered the mother church of Roman Catholics and is the Cathedral of both the Diocese of Rome and the Pope.
November 11, is Veterans Day in the United States. We remember the men and women of the Armed Services.
We also remember St. Martin of Tours on November 11. Martin was a veteran. He was drafted into the Roman army at age 15. One day he saw a poor man shivering in the cold. He cut his warm cape and gave the man half. In a dream, Martin saw Jesus wearing the cape. This changed his life. He left the army to become a monk.
On November 12, we remember bishop Josaphat. He was Ukrainian. Ukraine is located in the eastern part of Europe. We all know the suffering of the Ukrainian people. Pray for them. Ukrainian Catholics in the United States have named one of their four dioceses for Saint Josaphat. Again, I beg your prayers for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters.
Please pray for the sick, especially Fr. Mink, Fr. Jasper’s Mom, Patrick Flanagan, and Remo Vallejo. Our Armed Forces and First Responders need our prayers too. Pray for them.
A Prayer for Veterans Day
Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.
Each year in observance of Veterans Day, St. Ann School students participate in many activities such as writing letters to soldiers or writing letters to patients at the VA Hospital.
Over the years, we have compiled an impressive collection of photos that we display at school as a tribute to loved ones from our school community who have served or are still serving our country in the military. If you would like us to include a veteran from your family on the digital display in the school lobby, please email a digital or scanned photo of your veteran (in uniform, please) to Dawn Alvord, our technology coordinator, at dalvord@thesaintannschool.org by November 7 and we will add it to the slideshow on Veteran's Day Nov 11, 2021.
Please include the following information with the digital or scanned picture:
Veteran's Name
Veteran's Branch of the military
Veteran's Rank
Active Duty -- how many years (optional where stationed)
Name of St. Ann student
Relationship to student
If you have already sent in a photo in the past, we still have it as part of our 50+ slide show. No need to send again.
Thank you, and may God bless the veterans of the Saint Ann Community!
The 2022 St. Ann School Annual Fund
The St. Ann School Annual Fund was established in 2018 as a way to support the mission of the school and secure the legacy of Catholic education for future students of the school.
The Annual Fund directly supports the school’s core curriculum and electives, including two foreign languages and an enriched arts and music program. The fund is used to provide state-of-the-art technology and equips faculty with the tools necessary to educate and develop the hearts and minds of St. Ann students.
This is a restricted fund and is used solely for our students. This year, the Annual Fund will be used to purchase new educational software for our HD interactive smart boards as well purchasing new iPads and Chromebooks for the classrooms.
Your gift to the St. Ann School Annual Fund will ensure that current and future generations of students will continue to benefit from St. Ann School’s rich tradition of faith, academic excellence and community service.
The Annual Fund Campaign starts in October and continues through December 2022. Please consider making a gift online here or by check or securities payable to the St. Ann School Annual Fund. All gifts received by December 31, 2022 qualify for a charitable deduction for the 2022 tax year.

Let's help Catholic Charities provide available services to the needy in our Diocese.
Did you know that one out of every 10 residents of the Diocese receive at least one service each year from Catholic Charities? The Bishop’s 5K Run/Walk will bring attention and resources to assist Catholic Charities in its continuing efforts to reach out to underserved areas of the Diocese. This event is a great way for you to participate in the mission of Catholic Charities – providing caring service to the most vulnerable in our community.
Last year, Catholic Charities assisted more than 30,700 individuals in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore with a variety of essential services including food, clothing, energy assistance, residential and behavioral health programs. Catholic Charities also runs the Bayard House which is the only licensed residential program in Delaware providing food, shelter, and direct care to at-risk, homeless, pregnant, and newly parenting teens and young women. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the needs of those served by Catholic Charities have risen exponentially.
This event helps keep Catholic Charities and it’s resources a viable connection to our communities needs, especially with the pandemic and unemployment at such a high rate. Your involvement is crucial.
