CALLING ALL NEW KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

Kindergarten Information

All new incoming kindergarten students are invited to attend the Kindergarten Story & Activity Hour on May 9th from 10:15 - 11:30am.

Parents/families will meet in the media center for a brief presentation and opportunity to ask questions and meet otheram families,

Please share this information with your friends/neighbors that may not receive our newsletter yet, but have an incoming Kindergarten student.

Incoming kindergartners must be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2018.

Research indicates that developmentally appropriate full-day schedules benefit kindergarten children academically, socially and emotionally. Our principals and teachers understand this and are well equipped to meet the needs of our kindergarten students.

Our kindergarten students begin to learn a whole host of reading, writing and mathematics concepts and learning strategies that give them the foundation for a successful elementary school career in Walled Lake Schools.

Therapy Dog for Guest Elementary

Exciting news! Guest has been approved for a therapy dog!

Mrs. House & Mrs. Abraham have been working with Brighton Schools to bring a therapy dog to Guest next year. Brighton has a therapy dog in almost every building in their district, and have been utilizing these wonderful pets for approximately 10 years. The dogs, all yellow or black labs, are bred specifically to work as therapy dogs for the military, schools, and hospitals. It’s about an 18 month process.

Once the dog joins our family, it will have a monthly schedule to follow. The school will own the dog but a staff member will care for him outside of school. Our dog will also attend public events such as district sporting events, community events, Guest events, etc.

All expenses for the therapy dog will be paid through donations, including food. If you or a family business would like to donate, please contact Mrs. House. Depending how much is donated, names will be added to the “cape” the dog wears for advertising.

This wonderful news was shared with Guest PTA, Guest staff and will be presented at the May WLCSD Board Meeting.

We are so excited to welcome our four-legged friend. Any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to contact Monica House monicahouse@wlcsd.org, Kelly Abraham kellyabraham@wlcsd.org.

Look for more information and updates to be shared.

Bus passes can only be issued to students that ride on the same bus and want to get off at a different stop. We do not issue bus passes for students to ride another bus. If you are making arrangements for play dates directly after school, please remember that both parents need to send in a note with dismissal instructions. Students can be picked up in the main office if that is convenient when planning after school activities/play dates. Thank you.
