A Musical Note by Jean Barber
I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone and I am looking forward to making music with your children this year.
Exciting news for our school! The piece that we had commissioned last year for the band has been published by Alfred Music. This means our piece will be available to bands across North America.
I am very pleased to be able to offer once again the Interlink Choir program for grades 4 to 8. This is an unique choir that I have had the pleasure of conducting for 30 years. A great group of seniors based out of the Sir John Colborne centre are matched with students in our school choir. Throughout the year the seniors and students meet to sing and socialize. The student rehearsals begin Monday September 11th. Students need to make a commitment for the whole school year. They will have two performances in November.
They will perform at a community concert on November 8th in the evening and at a Remembrance Day assembly on November 10th.
Our Emily Carr Senior Band rehearsals will begin Sept. 15! This band is for students who already know how to play their instrument. For now the rehearsals are Friday from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
For students learning or continuing to learn an instrument, the music room will be available for extra practice. A schedule will be posted outside the music room showing the students when I am not on duty or working with another music group. I am encouraging students with knowledge on their instrument to come out and help mentor beginning students. This will help make the band program stronger.
School Council
The start-up school welcome package (sent home with students on our first day) included a nomination form to become a voting member of our School Council. There are additional forms available in the main office.
Completed forms are due to the main office no later than 3:30pm on Wednesday, September 13th.
Our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (meeting of the outgoing 2016/17 School Council and the incoming 2017/18 School Council) will take place at 6:30pm on Monday, September 18. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend this (and all) council meetings, regardless of whether or not you are a voting member.
