Principal's Message
Hello Mariner Families and Community!
We are excited to welcome back our students to Mariner City in just a few short weeks! As we begin the 21-22 school year, we realize that there will be questions and concerns about what school will look like. We are planning to provide full-time in-person education for all interested students with Covid safety measures in place. Masks will be required indoors, and we will socially distance when at all possible. This year we’ll have access to rapid Covid testing if students and staff become symptomatic. As we’ve learned in the last 18 months, we can expect safety guidance to change as the situation evolves. Please be sure to review the Mukilteo School District website for updated information on school safety measures.
Most of our incoming 9th and 10th graders have never visited or attended Mariner High School. We want to make sure that their transition goes well, so we will be having what we call a “slow start” to the school year. On September 1st, only 9th-grade students will attend school. Then on September 2nd, only 10th-grade students will attend. This will give these students some time to learn about Mariner and transition into the new environment without the entire student body in the building. September 3rd will be the first day that all students will be together.
The Mariner main office opened up this week, and we’ve had a number of people dropping in and calling with questions. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that you may have regarding the start of the new school year:
What COVID safety protocols will be in place when we start school this fall?
Here are some FAQs relating to COVID safety protocols when we return to school.
When and how will our student receive their class schedule?
Class schedules will be accessible on Qmlativ beginning August 25. Paper copies of each student’s schedule will be available at Marauder Days (8/25-26) for juniors and seniors and on the first two days of school (9/1-2).
How do NEW students register for school?
If you need to register a new student for school; please come to Mariner High School and pick up the registration packet. At that time, we will make an appointment for you to meet with our registrar. Please be advised that in addition to the registration form, you will need other documentation. More info on registration is here.
When is the first day of school?
The first day of school is September 1st, and only 9th graders will attend Mariner on this day. On September 2nd, we will only have 10th graders attend school. We are having this “slow start” because we want to make sure the 9th and 10th graders get a proper orientation day at Mariner. The first day for all grades (9-12) is on Friday, September 3rd.
When are Marauder Days and 9th Grade Orientation?
Marauder Days are on August 25-26 from 9:00 AM -Noon each day. Juniors will attend on Wednesday, 8/25 and Seniors will attend on Thursday, 8/26. We will not be having 9th-grade orientation before school because we will have orientation for all 9th graders on 9/1.
Will all students receive laptops this year, and if so, when will they get them?
All Mariner students will receive a new laptop to use for the 21-22 school year. All grade levels can check out their laptop on August 25-26 from 9:00 AM -noon in the Auxiliary Gym. We will also be checking out laptops on September 1-2 during “slow start” days. We will continue to check out laptops until all students have access. A parent permission signature is required before being checked out. You can find the permission forms in several languages here… https://www.mukilteoschools.org/Page/14908
Can my student still register for Mukilteo Virtual Academy (100% online school)?
No, at this time, the MVA is closed to registration. Information will be sent out from the District is they decide to open registration again.
How do I know which bus my student takes to school and where the bus stop is located?
The District uses students’ home addresses to automatically sign them up for the bus in their zone. Families will receive postcards in the mail about 1 week before school with their bus information (route, bus stop, times, etc.).
How does my student sign up for sports?
In order to sign up for athletics, you will need to complete the online athletic packet on final forms: https://mukilteo-wa.finalforms.com. In addition, athletes must turn in a current doctor’s physical (completed the last 24 months) to the athletic office. Please contact Athletic Secretary Karen Ebel, if you have any questions EbelKX@mulilteo.wednet.edu.
How does my student get a parking pass?
Parking passes are FREE this year; however, students must present a valid driver’s license and current proof of insurance to the bookkeeper. Once they do that, they will be issued a Parking Pass to display on their rearview mirror while parked on campus.
When will the 2021 yearbooks be distributed?
2021 yearbooks have arrived! We will be distributing them on August 25-26 from 1:00-3:00 PM in front of the main office. Students can also pick them up in the main office anytime after the 26th. There will be a limited number of them on sale for $35.
What should we do with computers and textbooks which we checked out last year?
Please drop off computers and textbooks from last year at the main office Mon-Fri from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM.
The main office is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 am-3:00 pm. Feel free to drop in or you can call (425) 366-5700 for general information. We are looking forward to working with your students this year!

Stay Connected!
Information and news about Mariner High School are available in a variety of formats. This year, you will receive a phone message and email from the district if we close or delay school. This helps ensure we reach everyone, including those without an email address on file, before students stand outside at a bus stop, and before parents leave for work. If you added a text message number in the Blackboard portal https://mukilteoschooldistrict.bbcportal.com/ you would also receive a text message. As usual, school delays or closures will be posted on the district website and posted through FlashAlert, which also feeds into mainstream local news feeds.
