PBIS Kickoff with Kenyon Owls 2022-23

Better Together

Families,

What a great first full week of school we have had, and it's so great to have all of the kindergarten together at school today! It all started with the Kenyon Owls welcoming our students for our PBIS Kickoff Day which can be viewed above. Students have a goal this quarter to earn an extra recess with Kenyon athletes. You can learn more by watching the video below that was shared with students today.

We are looking forward to celebrating our students who met their summer reading goal with a reward of a Wet-N-Wild Water Day on Tuesday. There will be all kinds of fun water activities and games here at school. We did have a student that earned over 1,000 minutes in Lexia during the summer, so they will get to soak me during water day!

Students have begun painting their rocks in art based on the book, Only One You by Linda Kranz, which will be displayed in a river rock garden outside the gym that they will pass each day on their way to the playground.

Lastly, I've included pictures from Mrs. Kramp's butterfly release, and Mrs. Bebout's class is anxiously awaiting their first butterfly.

Have a great weekend!

Best wishes,

Christy Grandstaff

Thrive Kids Coming to Wiggin Street!

Welcome back Wiggin Street families! We hope your summer treated you well and you are ready for a GREAT school year! We are SO excited to once again offer a Thrive Kids program to all the Wiggin Street kids and we CAN'T WAIT to get started!

Thrive Kids is focused on using fitness to help youth grow in confidence, character, and leadership and to help ALL kids be more active and strengthen their mindset! This year's program will be a 6-week program held on Tuesday mornings from 8-8:45am that runs from September 6th-October 11th. We will also host a Spring session (dates TBD). Within each 6-week program we will focus on a specific movement skill (i.e. squatting) as well as a specific mindset skill (i.e. setting goals). Our hope is that within this 6-week program we will guide youth to become more active and strengthen their ability to overcome obstacles!

School Attendance

Our doors open at 8:40, so students should not be dropped off prior to that time for safety due to supervision. Attendance is taken at 9:00, and your child's success in school depends on them being prompt, so they are ready for morning routines which can reduce student anxiety. If they are tardy for some reason, you will need to come into the office to sign them in. If they are ill and need to be absent, please call the office. A note of explanation is needed in the office upon returning to school including medical excuses if applicable.

You can send a note with your child to the office in the morning if there is a change in their pick up routine. Sometimes changes are necessary during the school day for pick up. If you have a change in the way your child needs to go home, it is preferred that you send an email to your child's teacher and Anne, our secretary, at aphilllips@mvcsd.us. Phone calls must be made to the office before 2:00 pm if needed, so the change can be communicated.

School Lunches

Our school will be returning to paid breakfast/lunch this school year. We encourage parents to complete the online Free & Reduced lunch forms in the parent portal. This process is confidential and qualifications have been expanded.
