Slater-Marietta Elementary Media Center

Kindergarten

Students in kindergarten have been working in centers the last few weeks and will continue while we research ways to create maps. Centers include: a computer station where students practice map skills with games, two listening centers where students practice comprehension skills after listening to a story, and teacher center where students are creating a map of the school and then plotting their routes throughout the school.

First Grade

Students in first grade have been working in centers the last few weeks and will continue while we research plants. Centers include: a computer station where students learn about how plants grow, parts of a plant, and other plant activities, two listening centers where students practice comprehension skills after listening to a story, and teacher center where students are creating plant posters, researching facts about a plant, and then creating a video to share their information.

Second Grade

Students in second grade have been working in centers the last few weeks and will continue while we research solid, liquid, and gases. Centers include: a computer station where students perform experiments to learn about states of matter, two listening centers where students practice comprehension skills after listening to a story, and teacher center where students are creating a video where they perform an experiment on states of matter.

3rd- 5th grades

Students in these grades are creating a TouchCast video about either the causes or effects of a war ( 3rd-Civil War, 4th-American Revolution, 5th-WWII). Students have researched either the causes or effects of one of the wars, created a news script to share their research, and then they will create a video in the TouchCast app on the ipad. Students are working very hard! They are working on this in both the library and the computer lab.

Family Literacy Nights

Families can use the media center for homework help, AR reading and quizzing, using Rosetta Stone to learn English, use the computers to work on your GED, and much more. We will also hold events periodically such as puppet shows, grade level information nights, and book making. Feel free to come by and check us out!
