A Note from Mr. Farquer
With Valentine’s Day being on Monday, I remembered an activity my parents would do with me that reinforced sight words or spelling words that I was working on. For this activity, you will need a pencil, piece of paper, scissors, and either candy or little chocolates (as a reward). Start by drawing hearts on the piece of paper. Within each heart, write a word that your child is learning (sight words or spelling words). I would start by making 10-15 hearts and write one word on each heart. Then cut them out individually and have them facing down on a surface. One by one, your child would pick a heart, turn it over and read the word for sight word practice. If they get it correct, they’ve earned either a piece of candy (like the valentine heart candy) or a little piece of chocolate. If you use spelling words, the adult will pick up the card and read the word to their child. The child will then have to spell it to you (either in writing or out loud). If they get it correct, then they’ve earned a reward. Keep going until they get all of them. Hopefully this is as much fun for them as it was for me when I was growing up! - Mr. Farquer, Reading Interventionist
Valentine's Day Parties - Feb. 14th
Students will have Valentine's Day parties in their classroom on Monday, Feb. 14th. Our cafeteria staff will be providing a snack that our PTO purchases for every child. Students have been decorating their treat bags in art class for the party. All students need to bring is a Valentine for each student.
