what you need to know about the Eng. I & II EOC exams
The test has two parts: reading and writing.
Reading Section - Plan to spend about two hours on this part.
- 28 multiple choice questions - 1 point each (30%)
- 2 short answer questions (SAQ) - 9 points each (20%)
Writing Section - Plan to spend about two hours on this part.
- 22 multiple choice questions - 1 point each (24%)
- 1 essay - 24 points (26%)
English I has an expository essay. The prompt will begin with "Write an essay explaining..."
English II has a persuasive essay. The prompt will begin with "Write an essay stating your position on..."
During the final hour you should:
- Verify that you bubbled in an answer for EVERY multiple choice question.
- Make sure that your SAQ responses are written in the appropriate lined boxes and include good text evidence.
- Write the final draft of your essay on the lined page if you have not already done so.
- Use any remaining time to check your work! Edit for grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

- State your position (based on the prompt).
- Provide an example with evidence.
- Provide another example with evidence.
