From the Principal...

Dear Westbrook Families,

With winter weather on its way, please remember to send your students in with warm, winter wear. Please remember to label your child’s clothing with first and last names, so that we can return any lost clothing to your child. Thank you to our wonderful Recess Supervision Team for braving the cold each day and being vigilant to keep students safe while they get their wiggles out!

Student Resources

This is a friendly reminder to check out Student Resources page on our school website. There are a lot of great math, literacy, technology, and research links. If you have questions about how to log-in to any of the websites, please check with your child’s teacher.

Bus Bulletin

With the winter weather coming soon, I would encourage families who have bus riders to sign up for the Bus Bulletin, a free service offered by our bus company, First Student. First Student emails, calls, and/or sends text messages to families if a bus is going to be delayed by ten minutes or more. To sign up, follow the directions posted at http://www.BusBulletin.com/parents. You will need your child’s route information, which can be found on his/her bus pass. If you need assistance registering, please call First Student at 847-635-9877.

Kindergarten

Enrollment will begin in January for students who will be turning 5 on or before September 1, 2020. Families will need to complete online pre-enrollment and schedule a kindergarten screening. All new kindergarteners will participate in a brief screening to inform placement decisions. In-person enrollment will take place during the day on Friday, February 14 or in the evening of Tuesday, February 18. AM/PM requests will be made at this time, however, no priority is given to early enrollment. Placement decisions will be shared in the spring. Please check our website to find our flyer and pre-enrollment process for our future Westbrook kindergarteners!

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends is our preschool program, which provides a naturalistic early childhood environment that is rich in language and literacy experiences where children are active learners. Our program includes children with and without special needs in a developmentally appropriate preschool class. Please click here for more information about our program.

Due to limited spots, we use a lottery system. If you are interested in the Circle of Friends program, please check out our website for more information about the enrollment process and lottery system. Our lottery will take place in early February 2020.

If you have a child who is between the ages of 3 and 5 years of age and you have concerns about his/her development, please contact assistant principal Karl Anderson to set up a screening. 847.394.7340x2006

Thank you for your partnership! Have a nice weekend!

Kind regards,

Kristin Vonder Haar
