What Did We Learn This Week?
Language Arts
We skipped spelling this week, but worked on Unit 7 in our vocabulary books. We are close to finishing the letters in our handwriting books and worked on identifying subject pronouns in grammar. We continued to write our final copies of our past lives for our autobiography. During our independent center, we worked on fun Hannukah centers.
Math
In math this week, we reviewed addition with regrouping to the 100s and then started worked on regrouping to the 1000's and money. We learned that we cannot forget the dollar sign and decimal point when adding money and how important it is to make sure we line up our numbers correctly when rewriting the problem up and down!
Social Studies
We spent the week studying continents and oceans. We learned a song with movements to help us remember the 7 continents, reviewed each one online at Sheppard's Software, and worked in partners to complete different continent and ocean activities. Next week we will split into groups to trace and paint the oceans and continents.
If you have time this weekend go to sheppardsoftware.com, click on world geography, the world, and your child can practice them in a fun way. Also, you can download the app called iLearn: Continents & Oceans for another fun way to practice! We will have a chance to do both of these activities in class next week, and we will have worksheets to practice where they are located! Our test over knowing the correct location of the continents and oceans will be on Thursday. There will not be a tutorial for this.
Hebrew
Dear 2nd grade parents,
As Chanukah חֲנֻכָּה arrived in our classroom, at the beginning of every lesson we lit the Chanukiahחֲנֻכִּיָּה together, said the blessings, sang holiday songs and listened to interesting stories. We also completed assignments in our Holiday work pages from חַג שָׂמֵחַ .
Our ARIOT KOTEV letters wereח (CHET)ק (KOF).
Looking for Hebrew practice this winter break?
Here is a fun app to do just that:
Wishing you a bright Chanukah,
