2021 Newsletter for Five Oaks and Rachel Carson MS
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Falcon Families!
It was so exciting to see students outside enjoying learning this week! Rachel Carson students spent the majority of Thursday and Friday learning in the open air! Five Oaks teachers take their students outside during class time as well to ensure that everyone gets some fresh air and time to stretch during the day!
Next Monday, May 31, is Memorial Day and there is no school. Wednesday of that week will be a normal school day, meaning we will have students on campus in hybrid and students attending via zoom. Please refer to the following schedule to take notice of the schedule changes.
Monday, May 31: Memorial Day Holiday, Schools Closed
Tuesday, June 1: Attendance Group 1, A Day
Wednesday, June 2: Attendance Group 2, B Day
Thursday, June 3: Attendance Group 1, B Day
Friday, June 4: Attendance Group 2, A Day
As we prepare to head into the last weeks of school, be on the lookout for information about end of the year celebrations! Restrictions are changing and things are looking like (cross your fingers!) that we will be able to have some sort of end of the year fun for students. We will even be able to have volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering, you’ll need to have an updated volunteer form completed. You can find this on the district website! Stay tuned!
This summer we are excited to offer some camp-like opportunities for students. Please consider signing your student up for enrichment opportunities! More information is on it’s way soon!
Have a great week!
¡Familias Falcon!

COVID 19 TESTING ON SITE
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school. Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:

Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.

Words From FO/RC Library
ALL LIBRARY BOOKS DUE ON JUNE 4. LAST DAY TO CHECK OUT IS MAY 28.
The end of the school year means it’s time to make sure all the library books find their homes on their shelves. Books not turned in will be marked as “Lost” and a fine will be assessed. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!
If you have truly lost a library book; after looking in your students’ backpack, under the couch, in the trunk of your car, in the bathroom (ew.), etc… please let Mrs. Zomerman know ASAP. We can work out either a payment solution or find another way to replace the book.
SORA Over Summer
The school libraries may be closed over the summer, but checkouts can still happen online. Anyone with a BSD account can check out eBooks and audiobooks whenever they need their reading fix!

DENTAL PREVENTION - JUNE 8TH
BEAVERTON SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM
Dear Five Oaks Parents and Guardians,
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
Thank you,
Leah Biado-Luis
Beaverton Safe Routes to School Coordinator
