ONGOING SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL LESSONS
Skaggs teachers facilitate a minimum of two classroom community circles per week. These circles may vary in topic and are used to develop and cultivate relationships while building community. Circle topics can be personal, academic-related, or may involve more formal restorative practices such as when the participants focus on repairing harm and restoring relationships. In the latter case, this would involve those responsible for and those affected by a particular incident in solving a problem. Community circles provide a safe, supportive space where all voices in the classroom can be heard and members can talk about sensitive topics, work through differences, and build consensus.
