Teaching from the Inside Out

Instructor: Melissa Lebowitz

Required Textbook: Monday Memo: Creating Change in early Childhood Education, One Message at a Time. (2013, Rocking R)

This course is designed to demonstrate the benefit and process of using observation to guide instruction. When planning for the early childhood classroom, it is crucial that we are basing our decisions on the children in the classroom that year and on that day rather than only on a predetermined plan. Teachers will be provided with the skills to observe children within authentic classroom experiences and to utilize these observations when making decisions for future planning. The skill of observing and learning how to interpret the observations carefully and intentionally can assist teachers when planning and assessing children. When you make decisions based on specific and intentional observations, your classroom becomes a safe place where children are respected as individuals and are encouraged to be creative and confident.

You will have two onsite class meetings and the remainder of the coursework will be completely independent as guided by the instructor.
