Back to School: August 2022

Chestatee Elementary

A Letter From Dr. Tennies, Our Principal

Dear Families of Chestatee,

Welcome! We are excited to partner with you as your child begins a new school year at Chestatee. I would like to start by expressing gratitude for all the hard work that it takes to begin something as important as the 2022-2023 school year.

Thank you families for coming out on August 2nd. Open House was wonderful. It was great to see students and families walking the halls to meet their teachers. Big smiles and connections abound! I feel like our eagles are back in the nest.

Thank you staff. The building looked so inviting. The classrooms were ready for students due to a lot of hard work from the staff. Teachers have prepared and are ready for lessons to begin. It’s time to SOAR!

Thank you to our School Safety Officer and the District Safety Office for assisting our preparations in starting a new school year. Along with Officer Angie, we have local deputies visiting the campus when in the area. All school building doors are locked. When visitors press the button for entrance into the school, our receptionist admits them. Visitors must have a photo ID to enter the building. Our Raptor System, standard in all Forsyth County Schools, alerts us to anyone who should not be admitted. Our students and staff participate in monthly safety drills which are required by the state. Safety is always our top priority.

Thank you to our amazing PTO for their commitment to the Chestatee students and families. Our PTO has done so much for the school in the last year thanks to community support. We have new media center furniture, a beautiful reading patio, spruced up outdoor classrooms and gardens, and teacher grants for classroom materials. The PTO continues to work their magic in connecting with families and has a full schedule of planned activities for the year. Together we are Chestatee!

I am honored to be serving as the principal of our school and look forward to working with your children.

Kindly,

Dr. Polly Tennies

Principal of Chestatee

Nurse: Nurse Kristen Will Help in So Many Ways!

Kristen Knottek is new at Chestatee! She moved to Georgia a year ago from outside of Philadelphia. She has 15 years of hospital nursing experience and lots of experience in the emergency room. She was a nurse last year in Gwinnett County Schools.

Nurse Kristen lives in the community and she and her husband, Travis, have a 6 year old daughter, Sloan. They also have a dog named Santos. We are so excited that Nurse Kristen joined the Chestatee family!

Please makes sure Nurse Kristen knows of any allergies and has any needed medication with the signed medical release for your child in our clinic.

Save the Dates for Academic Parent Teacher Teams!

What is APTT?

APTT is a night where you are invited into your child's classroom. The first meeting will be face to face so you can spend time as a class getting to know the curriculum and year's expectations. The teacher will present a foundational skill, your child's data on that skill, and games you can play to practice at home for 5-10 minutes that will help your child greatly. You'll end by writing a goal.

Childcare will be provided! We will also have translators to help present the information.

Please mark your calendars for this important event! More information will be coming!

A Few Words From our Family Engagement Coordinator

Welcome back, Families! Hopefully you had a great summer and are ready to get back to the routine of school. We are so excited for a new year! It’s going to be fantastic.

One of my dear friends always reminds me that we are better together! Another phrase you’ll see around our school is “Together we are Chestatee!” If you are new to Chestatee, you are soon to see that partnerships mean everything to us! Here are just a few examples of partnerships we love!

Family Partnerships- We are a family friendly school which means we believe in working together- students/ teachers and families. You will find smiling, welcoming staff members here at the T. We offer many ways to get involved, volunteer, and participate in your child’s learning.

PTO Partnerships- Our PTO has a strong partnership with the school and supports teachers and students in so many ways. From teacher grants to playground equipment to extras to make our school better, our PTO is very involved.

Partners in Education- We couldn’t do things without our partners! They donate and help us in so many ways. We love to plug them in our newsletter and on social media as a thank you. We aren’t sure what we would do without them!

Team Partnerships- Chestatee is a highly collaborative school. Between administrators, grade level teams and as a staff working together, we thrive on being better because we work together.

My name is Meg. I’m the Family Engagement Coordinator which is a super fancy title to say, “I’m here for families!” My job is to help you navigate the school, help your child academically by showing ways to help at home, and communicate with our community. If I haven’t met you, I’d love to do that soon. Partnering with famillies is my favorite!

Here’s to a great year, Chestatee Families! Together we are Chestatee!

See you soon,

Meg

Don't Forget....

Box Tops/ Soup Labels

We collect Box Tops to raise money for our school.

The procedure will be changing in the near future (we will keep you posted!)

For now, keep filling out your Box Top Sheets and turn them in to Ms. Donna in the front office.

Kroger and Publix will donate money too...

If you ask to connect your Kroger Plus card to Chestatee Elementary, they will donate a certain percentage of the profits to our school. You can find out more about how to do this if you CLICK HERE.

Publix Partners with Chestatee also. You only need to put your phone number in as you checkout. Publix will donate a certain percentage of their profits to Chestatee from your purchase!

We love our Partners in Education!
