MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED
Did you know that between all of our buildings, we provide 60+ extracurricular activities for students to be a part of?
The CSD believes in the importance of offering numerous extracurricular activities for students to be involved in outside of the regular school day. In fact, this is so important to the district that it is listed as an action goal in our Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP).
Clinton Intermediate School recently added a new afterschool program. The Nutrition and Healthy Eating Habits Club is led by Mrs. Donna Engeman. During their first meeting, students set goals for their future meetings. The club discussed how the five food groups fit on "My Plate." Next week, they will focus on dairy foods and make their own dairy snack.
STUDENTS PLANT DAFFODILS
National Honor Society and FFA students at Clinton High School spent some time during first semester to plant 1,000 daffodil bulbs at all six of the district's school buildings.
This project is part of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) 50th anniversary celebration which will take place this spring. 50,000 daffodil bulbs have been planted in various CFO affiliate communities across the region. Truman Lake Community Foundation (TLCF) is our local CFO affiliate.
As a token of appreciation for the students' hard work, both student groups were presented with a donation from the Foundation.
The Truman Lake Community Foundation was founded 25 years ago, and since then has distributed more than $5.6 million in grants to our community. The foundation offers a way for donors to invest locally and also enhance the quality of life of those in our community. If you are interested in learning how you can make a difference, visit www.thetlcf.com or email trumanlakefoundation@gmail.com

TAKING MICROSCOPES TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Clinton Middle School students in Mr. Taylor's 8th grade science class are having fun using their classroom microscopes and are enjoying taking them to the next level!
Students got an up close look at cheek swabs and pond water. Students were able to expand upon their learning by recording their observations with special microscope cell phone attachments.

STUDENTS PRACTICE PATIENT TECHNIQUES
Mrs. Foster's Health Occupations students recently had the opportunity to learn from Bobbi Rains, Doctor of Physical Therapy at GVMH.
Students learned about and practiced patient transferring techniques, bed positioning skills, as well as how they can show respect and dignity for the patient.
Health Occupations is offered to high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in the healthcare field. This Clinton Technical School course provides students the opportunity to earn several certifications including; Certified Nurse Assisting (CNA), American Heart Association’s BLS for Healthcare Providers, Basic First Aid, and Dental Varnishing.

CARDINALS MAKING COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Clinton High School offers a variety of Communication Arts classes, one of which is Career English. This class, taught by Haylee Clark, prepares students who are planning to enter directly into the workforce after high school. One requirement of this class is for students to job shadow in the career field in which they intend to be employed someday.
When student Jake Donahue wished to job shadow at Sherman Plumbing & Heating, his teacher reached out to see if they would be interested in hosting him. Without hesitation, Sherman's welcomed Jake into their business.
Jake had a great experience, and even though he was only required to stay for half of a day, Sherman's allowed him to stay an entire day to learn even more! "Jake got to get his hands into some furnaces and learned how to wire the low voltage wiring into a furnace. He said he enjoyed it and we enjoyed having him," said Steve Hadley with Sherman's Plumbing and Heating.
We appreciate our community partners for continuing to provide our students with top-notch experiences such as this!

PRECIOUS PENGUINS
Kindergarten students in Mrs. Potter and Mrs. Olson's classes learned all about penguins last week. Students had fun learning about a penguin's habitat, their predators, and their characteristics. Students read about penguins, made penguins and even wrote facts about what they had learned.
To top off the fun, students had a blast pretending to be penguins. Students held eggs on their feet like an Emperor penguin and "tobogganed" down their school's ramp just like a penguin does on the ice.

ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF INSTRUCTION (AMI)
DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) allows school districts to implement Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) plans on days that school is not able to be in session due to inclement weather. When school districts implement their AMI plan, the school hours lost due to closure do not have to be made up. On days that inclement weather forces the district to close school buildings, our messaging to you will inform you if the day will be a "traditional inclement weather day" or an "AMI day". Please watch for this information in the communication we provide.
