Items Are Due Today!

I care for others, and others care for me

In honor of the design principle, Empathy and Caring, the Glennwood PTA DEI committee invites you to participate in the Decatur Season of Giving event. We will be supplying two families in need with gifts, clothing and necessities. Many of these families are unhoused or in transitional housing, so the winter and holidays can be especially bleak. We have taken the responsibility of providing items for a family with a pre-k student and a senior. We encourage you to intimately include your children in this process of choosing how to support these families.

We ask that all items be delivered to the front porch of the Gillespie-LaFond home- 323 Glendale Ave – by Thursday, Dec 1.

Items requested/wished for are listed on the signup genius HERE.

If you choose to donate money so that we may purchase the gifts, please Venmo the donation to @Amanda-Gillespie-1 and indicate “Glennwood Season of Giving” in the comment.

Finally, Ms. Rittenhouse has curated a selection of books that help elementary school-age children understand issues such as poverty, consumerism, and the difference between want and need. These are listed below, with links to read-alouds if you prefer:

Those Shoes - Maribeth Boelts

Last Stop on Market Street - Matt de la Peña (Newberry winner for this title)

Beatrice's Goat - Page McBrier

The Hundred Dresses - Eleanor Estes

Crenshaw - Katherine Applegate

Thank you for your generosity this holiday season!

Glennwood Staff Appreciation December Event: Hot Cocoa and Treat Bar, hosted by Kindergarten

This year, to show our appreciation for our amazing staff, the Glennwood PTA will be sponsoring a staff snack table in addition to hosting other staff appreciation events later in the year. We are asking each grade level to "stock the table" for a given month; each grade will be asked to sponsor a staff appreciation event twice this year. We kindly ask that each family participate in one of the two opportunities for your grade level (the intention is that a family only needs to participate once).

For December, we're asking Kindergarten families to host a "Hot Cocoa and Treat Bar" for our staff on Thursday, December 15th . If you're a kindergarten family, please visit the Sign Up Genius here to sign up to bring in one or more items for our staff. Please drop off your items with Ms. Reynolds at the front office December 12-14 anytime during school hours and the PTA will assemble the snack table for our staff to enjoy on December 15th. Items can be store-bought or homemade, in bulk or individually packaged. The PTA is also requesting clean up volunteers, so please sign up via the Sign Up Genius if you can volunteer your time to help clean up. If you are unable to purchase items for the table but would like to donate funds towards the event, the PTA is also collecting monetary donations. Please Paypal your donation to the PTA at Treasurer@Glennwoodpta.org with a note that it is for the December Snack Table and we'll take care of it for you.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Staff Appreciation Co-Chairs: Haley Stevens (haleycstevens@gmail.com) or Samantha Bryan (samantha.chopp@gmail.com).

Birthdays Celebrations in Community Circle

We will announce all birthdays for the month on the first Community Circle of each month. In Community Circle on December 2, we will announce all December birthdays. This will hopefully make it easier for staff announcing the birthdays and also for parents so that they will know when their child's birthday will be announced.

News from City Schools of Decatur

Nutrition Department

CSD Nutrition is asking parents to check their online meal accounts in infinite campus (Parent Portal). We have several families that have negative balances that need to be cleared.

For the last two years, the USDA offered school districts waivers to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. Unfortunately, those waivers have now expired which means City Schools of Decatur no longer offer all students a free meal.

The traditional free & reduced lunch program does still exist for those who qualify. If you think your family qualifies for federal free or reduced lunch please reapply for the federal free & reduced lunch program today. Please visit, https://campus.csdecatur.org/campus/portal/parents/decatur.jsp to complete the online application. Paper applications may be picked up at the schools. You only need to re-apply one time each school year. Only one application per family needs to be completed.

* Menus are subject to substitutions based on availability. We are facing unprecedented issues with the supply chain that will cause us to alter our posted menus with little to no notice. Currently, we may be replacing our deli turkey with chicken ham when deli turkey meat is listed on the menu. Please bare with us as we manage these changes.

Bus Transportation Department

About a month ago, students that ride the bus to school were given a white ID card that we attached to each students’ bookbag. Beginning January 5, students will be required to have this card to ride the bus. So please check to see if your child’s card is still attached. If not, please email Contact Person csperson@csdecatur.net so we can make a new one.
