Veteran's Day
Next month, on November 10th, we will celebrate Veteran's Day with a school-wide assembly. We love having veterans com help us celebrate this special day with our school. If your child has a relative that is a veteran and is interested in coming, please let Mrs. Farrow know as soon as possible by sending her an email, farramy@pewaukeeschools.org. In this email please provide Mrs. Farrow with the following information:
* If the veteran would like to speak to a class after the assembly (which classroom)
* Brief history of service, for a quick introduction during the assembly
Mrs. Farrow needs this information ahead of time in order to honor them properly during our celebration, so please make sure you email her before November 10th.
Red Ribbon
This year, Horizon students and staff members have been focusing on the themes of unity and community. We’ve already participated in a play, an assembly, and many classroom activities Our next step is to show this unity by weaving a continuous red ribbon throughout the building before our November assembly. If you’d like to help us by donating ribbon (preferably solid red, at least one inch wide) please send it to school or contact Mrs. Farrow. Thanks for your support!

Social Studies
Next week students will make connections among regions in the United States and their climate, physical features, and vegetation. These are important connections for students to make in order to fully understand why certain colonies survived while other plundered. We will wrap up our Geography unit with a latitude/longitude assessment and a geography test. Please check the Canvas calendar for the exact date. Here is a study guide for students to use as a resource.
Math
We spent time this week reflecting on our MAP scores. Students determined the strand where they wanted to see improvement. Then they identified specific skills that they needed in grasp. (ie: identify trapezoids, solve 2-step problems, etc.) Students will be taking time during math workshop to discover more about their topic. Eventually, they will be creating a math seminar and teaching their classmates!
