New Gym, Parking Lot and Multi-purpose Room Renovations at Biltmore Preparatory Academy
The construction of the new gymnasium is almost complete and the renovations have begun to turn the existing multi-purpose room into a middle school learning neighborhood. Another exciting update is the parking lot project has started with the intent to create a better drop-off and pick-up flow and add more spaces to accommodate events. These projects are scheduled to be completed before the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year
Renovations, upgrades, and rebuilds are underway at Creighton School District.
Thanks to our voters, the district has been tackling a number of Bond projects across the district. Some of the work completed or in progress includes:
- A library redesign at Biltmore Preparatory Academy
- A new maker space at Loma Linda School
- Bathroom remodels at Larry C. Kennedy, William T. Machan, and Loma Linda
- Upgraded preschool/kindergarten play areas at Monte Vista
- Multipurpose room remodels at Excelencia and Gateway Schools
- New fall protection wood fiber for the Machan School playground
- New flooring in the Gateway library.

Service Learning in Costa Rica Through the Creighton Junior Ambassador Program
In its 29th year, the Creighton Junior Ambassador Program has provided hundreds of students with the opportunity to travel to different countries to learn the culture, language and history. Creighton School District is proud to announce that this year students were able to travel to Costa Rica for the first time.
In Costa Rica, students were immersed in the culture volunteering at a sea turtle sanctuary helping measure, record, and tag the turtles for future research and then watching as they were released back into the wild. As part of their service learning, they also planted mangroves and worked to ensure a healthy habitat for the indiginous turtles.
However, it wasn’t all work and no play in Costa Rica, students got to visit a chocolate plantation and were treated to pineapple, papaya, fresh fried bananas and of course different types of chocolate. They also were able to spend the day kayaking.
Creighton Hosts Taipei Chinese Cultural Summer Camp
This summer students attended the Summer Camp of Arizona! Students spent the week learning origami, Chinese yo-yo, eating cultural food, and a dance performance. To end the week, students performed the traditional dance for parens, staff, and partners.
Tech Talk: Helping Our Children to Navigate the Digital World
With the growing number of smartphones and iPads that our children have access to, there are more ways than ever to hide information on our phones, ways to connect to strangers online, and share information. While the Internet may seem like a scary place a times, there is also a lot of good content. The purpose of this article is to provide parents with resources to help them better understand the digital world our children live in.
Look out for an app that looks and operates like a real calculator. It even looks like the standard calculator that comes on an iOS device. Once you enter in a passcode on the calculator interface and “then press the percent (%) button, the app unlocks to reveal a secret vault for photo and video files” (Hardy, 2016). This calculator app isn’t the only app either. According to the Affinity Blog website, there are “other secret storage vault apps using the calculator interface” which include “Secret Calculator and Secret Photo & Video Calculator which are both available in the iOS App Store and Smart Hide Calculator, which is available in the Google Play store for Android users” (Hardy, 2016).
