App Review
QuizFlick Jr is an interesting variation on the traditional quiz game. It allows up to four players to compete in a fun competition to become QuizFlick champion. It has been specifically designed to let children and adults compete on equal terms making it perfect for use by families.
Easy to Use
QuizFlick Jr is very easy to use. Each player simply taps on a corner of the screen to join the game and then selects the type of questions they want (children or adult). The objective is to correctly answer multiple choice questions. There is no time limit on this part of the game which is great because everyone reads at a different rate. Each time they get a question right they earn a soccer ball, a golf ball or a curling stone. Once a player has won 10 of these the game moves on to 3 fun flick games.
These are flick soccer, flick curling, and flick golf. The objective is to flick the balls/stones, which they earned in the previous round, into goals, holes, and targets for the appropriate game. The player with the most balls/stones entering the flick rounds obviously has an advantage but the winner is ultimately decided by a combination of skills and good fortune. They have to aim their flick shots carefully and judge the speed of their shot. There is also a time limit with all shots having to be taken before the buzzer sounds. The QuizFlick champion is the player with the most points at the end of the flick games.
Great Concept
I really love the concept of QuizFlick. Using the quiz to set the stage for the flick games is a fantastic idea and it works really well. Not only does this format motivate students to participate in the quiz it also takes the pressure off less able students. These children know that even if they do not collect as many items as their competitors in the quiz section, they still have a chance of winning the overall competition.
A game of QuizFlick Jr usually only takes about 5-10 min to play making it a great game to use in class as a reward at the end of a lesson. There are currently has more than 3000 adult and kids questions. Some of these are a little bit random and you will come across ones in the kids section that are much too hard for children to answer and others in the adult section that are very straightforward. However, because it is multiple choice quiz it is easy for kids to make a guess and move on.
My nine year old daughter loves playing QuizFlick Jr and will come to me and ask can we have a game. I have found that she is usually able to pick up almost as many balls/stones as I can. Perhaps that says more about my lack of general knowledge than it does about the app but the result is that when it comes to the flick games she still has a good chance of winning.
Wishes
One feature I would really like to see is the ability for users to add their own questions. QuizFlick Jr would be a fantastic way for students to review a topic in class if teachers had this facility available to them.
QuizFlick Jr provides a great way to encourage some friendly competition and I would recommend it to both parents and teachers. It does not contain any adverts or in-app purchases but adults should be aware that the information section allows players to subscribe to the developer’s newsletter. This is not locked.
