CHS celebrated “An Evening of Elegance- A Red Carpet Affair” at the Double Tree Resort in Scottsdale on Saturday. Thanks to the Student Council Junior Class and Ms. Brewington for all of their hard work organizing and hosting such a special event. Congratulations to Cito Hemphill Toledo and Tiana Poirier-Shelton, 2017 Prom King and Queen!
FFA ACCOLADES
Congratulations to the 14 Chandler High FFA members who raised animals for the Maricopa County Fair. On April 16, 2017 the 14 students sold their animals for over $24,000. Students raised 10 market hogs, 2 beef steers, 1 market goat, 3 chickens, 1 rabbit, and 1 lamb. Students have been training and caring for their animals for the past 9 months. Students will receive their checks and invest in animals for next year.
Angel Morales raised a market steer, Zeus, and received the Grand Champion for the Rate of Gain. Students who raised animals for fair included; Angel Morales, Elery Martin, Ali Tolman, Cody Shaw, Bryce House, Juliette Covitz, Jon Poli, Maggie Jordanova, Madison McDaniel, Anna Kendal Wallace, Joel Hernandez, Noel Braudt, Travis Covitz, Michelle Braun, and Shelby Bellah.
CHANDLER’S GOT TALENT
Last Tuesday, Student Council’s Freshman Class hosted our annual “Chandler’s Got Talent” Show. Our wonderfully gifted students and staff showcased their hidden talents on stage. Winners included: 3rd place- local high school band “Fun Bus and The Linear Applications”; coming in 2nd was our quartet from Men’s Choir “TBD”; and in 1st place, Vanessa Zamora, a talented rapper and song writer, wowed the crowd with an original piece. Special thanks to Ms. Slemmer, Mrs. Dyke, Mrs. Komitzky, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Rennell, Ms. Likes, Mr. Hunter and Mr. Ireland.

Boys Volleyball celebrated Senior Night last week (pictured below). Come out to Brophy this Thursday at 5:30pm to watch the currently ranked #1 and #2 volleyball teams in the state. Go Wolves!

nHS INDUCTION CEREMONY
245 students were inducted into the National Honor Society last week. Students applied and were chosen for this prestigious organization based on their academics, service, leadership and character. Thanks to Ms. Stephanie Taranec, NHS Advisor, for planning such a special event, and congratulations to NHS’s newest members!
MYP COMPLETERS RECEIVE ACADEMIC LETTERS
Last Thursday, 49 CHS Sophomores who finished all components of the IB Middle Years Program received their Academic Letters. MYP students are enrolled in honors classes both freshman and sophomore years, take a World Language both years, complete 40 hours of community service, and complete research to create a personal project by 4th quarter of 10th grade. The program is ideal for 9th and 10th grade students looking to begin their portfolio of experiences that can help them when applying for colleges and scholarships.

EXPLORING EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Join Brown, Chicago, Columbia, Cornell and Rice for an information session for prospective students and their families on Thursday, May 18th at 7:00pm at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Scottsdale Resort. Sessions include a brief overview of each institution, info on admissions and financial aid, and a chance to speak informally with admissions representatives. You must register for the event at the link below.
Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Rice University, and the University of Chicago will be hosting a joint information session in your area.
Students and their families will learn more about the selective admissions process, scholarships and financial aid, academic programs, and campus life. An admissions officer from each school will be available to answer university-specific questions.

INTERESTED IN 2017-18 STUDENT COUNCIL?
Students interested in being a part of Student Council for the 2017-18 school year should see Mr. Gray in room 303 or visit the CHS Student Council webpage to get information about the selection process and get the election packet. Student Body elections will be on Friday, 4/28/17, and class officer elections (grades 10/11/12) will be on Friday, 5/5/17. Students who are selected must be a member the 2nd hour Student Council class for the entire school year.

OPERATION ROCK STAR
Rock n Roll High School is proud to announce they are partnering with the Arizona National Guard and the USO to produce Operation: Rock Star! on May 6th in downtown Tempe.
Operation: Rock Star! is a Battle of the Bands competition for High School and College bands and soloists that has cash prizes of $500, $300 and $100 for the top bands and $100 for the top soloist. Judges will be music industry professionals and celebrities. View the Operation Rock Star 2017 flyer for an application.
IMPORTANT INFO FOR GRADUATING SENIORS
- Starting May 1st, if you would like to invite parents, grandparents and great grandparents who have graduated from Chandler High School to the 2017 graduation ceremony, we have arranged for special seating on the grass on Austin Field for multi-generational families. To have your request approved, please pick up a form from Mrs. Claudio in the admin office, have it completed and returned by May 15th.
- Also starting on May 1st, for those of you who will have family members or friends attending the graduation who require handicapped seating, we will start taking names and assign seating on May 1st. Please see Mrs. Baum in the admin office for further details and to make the arrangements.

MARICOPA GRANT FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT
Applications for the Maricopa Grant for Dual Enrollment are due May 31, 2017
Don't miss the deadline and miss your chance to be awarded tuition for your dual enrollment classes! Funds are awarded on a first-come first-serve basis and eligibility is based on financial need. If you don't apply now and decide this fall to take a dual enrollment class, the funds may be gone. There is no commitment to register for classes if your plans change in the fall, but applying now allows you to determine your eligibility and become pre-qualified for funding.
Students must apply now to receive tuition assistance for the dual classes they plan on taking in the 2017-2018 school year. Please refer to the Tuition Assistance link on our website for more information and access to a packet which includes: an informational cover sheet and application. Please be sure to follow the directions carefully as incomplete applications cannot be processed.
