Officer Knox Visits Vienna-Finley

On January Wednesday, January 25th, 2017, officer Ron Knox and his partner, german shepard Ronnie, came to visit Vienna-Finley Elementary. Officer Knox, from Clark County, explained to the students about how Ronnie is trained to be his partner. Ronnie goes through many, many hours of training before he is allowed to work with the police. This allows him to understand the commands of his partner, the police officer. All officers who have police dogs, also go through many, many hours of training. Ronnie even has a police vest he wears when he is on duty, just like police officers. Vienna-Finley students enjoyed learning about how dogs can be a valuable member of our law enforcement and become a vital part of keeping us safe.

5th Grade Basketball and Cheerleading Eligibility Requirements

Scott County School District 2

Fifth Grade Extra-Curricular Academic Eligibility

The following academic guidelines will apply to all fifth grade students who participate in basketball or cheerleading during the 2016-2017 school year.

  1. Students must maintain passing grades (D or above) in all subjects to be eligible to participate in basketball and/or cheerleading.

  2. Progress reports will be run for participating students on Friday afternoon following lunch. The names of players/cheerleaders who have an “F” in one or more subjects will be reported to the Elementary Athletic Director.

  3. On Saturday:

  • Students WILL be allowed to participate in basketball games.

  • The AD will notify coaches of players/cheerleaders who are ineligible for the upcoming week.

  1. Ineligible players/cheerleaders WILL NOT be allowed to attend practices or participate in games the following week.

  2. Academically ineligible players/cheerleaders WILL NOT be allowed to participate in practices or games until eligibility requirements are met.

NOTE: Ineligibility is served week to week not game to game. For example, a player who receives a failing grade in math on Friday, November 3rd will be allowed to play on Saturday, November 4th, but he/she cannot practice the following week. The player has no failing grades on Friday, November 11th, but there are no games the following day. Since the player’s eligibility is restored, he/she can practice the week of November 14th AND participate in the game(s) scheduled for Saturday, November 19th. In this case, the player would miss no game time.

Snow Days and Delays

In the case of inclement weather, SchoolMessenger calls will be sent to all parent phone numbers. Parents and students can also find out about school changes on our web site, on local radio or TV, and on district Facebook sites. Please make sure your contact information is up to date in Harmony so that you are receiving the SchoolMessenger call.

In the case of a 2 hour delay, schools will begin at 10:05 AM. Bus routes will run two hours late, but riders should be patient as winter roads often slow to travel. Vienna-Finley will still open at 7:30 AM for parents that need to drop off students on the way to work.

If school is cancelled, no sport or club activities will be held.
