Mrs. Reiber's Apple Newsletter

Important Reminders
- Welcome to Munroe Elementary! I hope your child has had a wonderful experience so far during our first 3 days together. I have truly enjoyed getting to know each child and I am confident our class is going to be an amazing group of friends this year!
- This newsletter will be sent every weekend before the school week starts. Please read it thoroughly as there is a lot of important information in it.
- Upcoming events: School Picture Day is Thursday, August 25. Information is coming home on Monday night in your child's take home folder (the folder is white, please be sure to look for it).
- Each night, the white folder will come home with your child, along with their planner. The planner will have homework assignments and spelling words written in it. The folder will have the actual homework papers and any other important papers to take home or to return to school. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation in checking your child's folder and planner EVERY night.
- This is a reminder to please sign up for Class Dojo - it is a free app and website. This is the main way I will be communicating with parents/guardians this year about their child's behavior, as well as any important reminders from school. I have posted a few photos from our first few days, too! The code went home with each child at Meet the Teacher Night.
- Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions. All of my contact information can be found in the folder you received at Meet the Teacher night. I will be contacting those parents/guardians this week who have not turned in the parent survey or other important information from Meet the Teacher night. Thanks!

What we are learning in Room 12 this week...
This is the area of the weekly newsletter where parents/guardians can be informed of what is planned for our week. If your child is ever going to be absent, please let me know in advance if possible, so I can send make-up work with them.
*There is no homework this week; homework assignments will be assigned on Mondays and are not due until Fridays. This will begin next week (August 29).
- Math - We are starting a unit about the properties of multiplication. We will start by learning about items that come in groups and reviewing repeated addition. Before the unit starts, students will take a two-day math pre-assessment.
- Reading - We are going to learn about how to find books in our class library that interest us; we will also go over how to read independently and quietly so we are respecting the students who are working with Mrs. Reiber in a group.
- Writing/Spelling - There are no spelling words or test this week, as we will be working on a pre-assessment of your child's spelling knowledge. I will share this information at parent conferences in the fall. For writing class, we will complete an All About Me assignment to keep in our writing journals.
- Social Studies - When we complete a social studies unit (takes a few weeks), then we will switch to a science unit. When that ends, we will continue with social studies, and so on. Our first social studies unit is Citizenship; we will learn about citizens, rights, responsibilities, rules, and laws. There is a video link here if you'd like your child to watch it at home.
