HES List Server Message
October 27, 2017
Hello Holland Elementary Parents,
I hope that all families are doing well. We had a very busy week at school, and there several fall events coming up at school. Details for the activities are below:
Finally here on Friday! Set up begins at 5:00 pm and the treating begins at 6:00 pm. The Spooky Hallway and inside games begin at 6:30 pm.
If you didn't purchase your all-inclusive wristband via the Online Store, they will be available "at the door" for $20 and $45.
Don’t forget that there will be two food trucks, pizza, and lots of snacks! The food trucks accept credit/debit cards but the PTO-provided food will be cash-only.
Halloween Parade and Parties
Our annual festivities will begin with a parade on Tuesday, October 31st starting at 2:30 p.m. Please see the letter HERE for more information. For school security and safety reasons, parents who are coming for the parade are not permitted inside the school. Only those parents who are homeroom parents will be permitted to help with the party.
We love when parents come to the parade in costume; however, we ask that parents not wear masks that disguise their identity.
Please remember that costumes incorporating weapons and/or depicting violence are not appropriate to bring to school. Additionally, we are strongly discouraging clown costumes. In order to keep this activity fun and safe for students, the following items are not permitted:
- Hockey sticks, baseball bats or any other potentially harmful objects
- Costumes or objects with violent themes
- Weapons used as costume props
- Skateboards or roller blades
Homeroom parents will be following the guidelines outlined in the Healthy Snacks Memo 2017 regarding district expectations for food items at classroom parties. We ask that parents do not send in any other food items or candy for classroom parties unless coordinated by the homeroom representative. Thank you very much for your participation and cooperation. Your support is greatly appreciated!
In the event that weather requires that the students parade inside, we will inform the community early in the day via list server message and post any changes on the HES home page. Please note that the parking lot will be blocked off at 2:20 pm that afternoon so we do not have moving traffic with parading students.

Be a Buddy, Not a Bully Week
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and it is a time when schools across the country help spread the message of the anti-bullying movement. This year, we are celebrating with our second annual Be a Buddy, Not a Bully Week at Holland Elementary School from October 27th through November 3rd. Along with special activities, we will also have school-wide theme days.
Be a Buddy, Not a Bully Week Activities:
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27th - OFFICIAL DISTRICT WIDE Pink and Blue Day! – Wear PINK and BLUE to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
MONDAY, OCTOBER 30th - Relay for Life – Relay Recess! – Wear purple and get ready to learn how we can fight against cancer.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 31st - Say Boo to Bullying! – Wear your scary, spooky, funny Halloween costumes for the parade.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1st - Put a CAP on Bullying – Wear your favorite cap or hat (excuse to have a messy hair day).
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd - Team Up Against Bullying! – Wear your favorite team/club shirt or jersey.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd - Get CRAZY with Kindness – Crazy hair day, crazy socks – you choose (or do both)!
Please note that participation in these activities is optional.
Relay Recess
Our Relay Recess will be this Monday, October 30, 2017. This is the opportunity to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have battled cancer while raising money for the American Cancer Society. The students at Holland Elementary are going to walk “relay style” during their recess to raise awareness about how to prevent cancer (wear sunscreen, don’t smoke, and exercise). For the Relay Recess, students will be walking around the playground (or the gym in the event of rain) to try and help raise money for the American Cancer Society. Pledge forms can still be turned in on Monday (Relay Recess Pledge Form).
This week, members of our student council sold Relay Recess items and raised $155 already! Special thanks to the following students for facilitating this sale:
Kevin Koles
Isabella Thomas
Tilli Brandani
Alexa Dosa
Abby Newton
Evan Shor
Will Hassid
Lana Silver
Students are encouraged to wear purple (or their Holland T-Shirt) on Monday, and it should be a fun-filled event for the kids!
The 2017 Scooper Bowl is a Ticketed Event. There will be no tickets sold at the door at the event. Each ticket gives the ticket holder a choice of any handmade ceramic bowl and THREE scoops of ice cream. Many toppings will be available to make a delicious dessert!
Parents must Pre-order a bowl and their ice cream choice on the Scooper Bowl Order Form and place in an envelope with cash payment. Payment is Cash Only, thank you!
Please get this order back to your Mrs. AuBuschon at school as soon as possible. Ms. AuBuchon will give the student a ticket after receiving the order. There will only be as many tickets as there are ceramic bowls to purchase. When all bowls are sold - there will be no more tickets.
The deadline for orders is Friday, November 10th - but don't wait! Tickets are selling fast!
