Dress Down Day for a Canned Good Item
Tuesday, November 23rd is a Dress Down Day. Instead of a dollar, we will be collecting
canned goods to donate to the Grandview Assistance Program. Please help by bringing in a canned good to donate to GAP. Students that choose to dress down for a canned good item must adhere to the dress code guidelines (please see below). Students who do not follow the dress code guidelines will have their parents contacted to bring appropriate attire and may lose the privilege to participate in future dress down days. The dress down day is optional. Students who are not participating should come to school dressed in their school uniform.

Help for the Holidays
Giving the Basics
Grandview C-4 partners with the non-profit organization Giving the Basics, to provide several types of personal hygiene items to students and families who cannot otherwise afford
them. Items are free and include, but are not limited to, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, ethnic hair products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, soap, and laundry soap. Sometimes, items like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, combs and brushes are also available. Personal dignity is an important component of school attendance and academic achievement. If you know of a student or family in need, please contact a school counselor, nurse, health para or building administrator. With your help, we can get these important items into the hands of the students who need them. Remember, the items are free and available to anyone in need.
Breathing Strategies
Managing emotions can be incredibly difficult for students, and really, for all people. Here are a few strategies we use at Conn-West. Feel free to try them out with your student(s)...they work great at home, as well!
Cold Weather is Here
Students will be going outside for recess as long as the temperature or wind-chill is at or above 32 degrees. If the temperature or wind-chill fall below 32 degrees, students may have a shortened outdoor recess. Please make sure that your child has the appropriate outerwear for going outside on cold days.
Please Label Your Child’s Outerwear
Please put a name somewhere on your child’s coats, jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts. We donate hundreds of items of clothing and accessories at the end of every year because we cannot identify their owners and they aren’t claimed. Thank you for your help! With a name inside, your child’s clothing is never really lost.

Afternoon Dismissal
We need your help with afternoon dismissal. We are causing a backup on Main Street in the afternoon at dismissal time. We want to keep everyone safe and ask that you please not stop your vehicle on Main Street while waiting to get into the back parking lot. Please come a little bit later for dismissal or if you see that you cannot get into the back lot, please pull around the corner and wait on a side street until you can into the lot. We really need your help with dismissal in order to keep you and other community members safe.

Student Symptom Screening
Parents please screen your children for symptoms at home prior to sending them to school. Use the below checklist for home screening. Students with symptoms or known exposure to positive case should stay home and parents/guardians please notify the school and request guidance. Students not feeling well during the school day will notify their child's teacher for guidance. The checklist includes:
- fever or chills
- cough
- headache
- muscle aches
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- new loss of taste or smell
- new runny nose or congestion
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- sore throat
- close contact with a person with COVID-19
Students who are fully vaccinated and are exposed to someone with a confirmed COVID-19 case can refrain from quarantine if they are not showing any symptoms. A fully vaccinated individual is defined as:
Someone who received their second dose in a two-dose vaccine series more than two weeks ago.
Someone who received their first dose in a single-dose vaccine more than two weeks ago.
If students arrive at school not feeling well or start feeling ill during the school day, they will report to the health para’s office. Students with COVID symptoms will need to be picked up immediately and will not be allowed to ride home on the bus.
Parents will notify the health para if their student is exposed to someone with a confirmed COVID-19 case. If the student is not fully vaccinated they will need to stay home for 14 days from their last contact with the positive person. They may return after 14 days if no symptoms develop in that time.
All students testing positive for COVID-19 who have symptoms but were not hospitalized may return to school 10 days after symptom onset, AND at least 24 hours with no fever, AND other symptoms have improved
All students testing positive for COVID-19 who never develop symptoms may return to school 10 days after the first positive test.
