Husky Update

Week of 11/15/2021

Hello HMS Families

This version of the Husky Update has important information related to our school calendar, at-risk parent conferences, our yearbook presale, and the PTSA See's Candies fundraiser among a few other important topics.

Please see the postings below for more information and thank you for reading!

Band and Choir Winter Concerts will take place on Wednesday 11/17/21 at 4PM

Our students are working hard to get ready for our first on-campus performance in almost two years! We are looking forward to sharing the progress of our performing groups since our on-campus return.

The Choir will open the concert, followed by our Beginning Band classes and finally our Advanced Bands 1 and 2. Since it is outdoors, please bring along some folding chairs or lawn chairs if possible to assist us in maintaining social distancing. If you plan on attending, please stay for the entire program out of respect to all of our outstanding performers.

Parent Conferences and Minimum Day, Thursday 12/2. 11:55 AM release.

On Thursday, December 2nd, We will be holding parent conferences for students who may be in danger of failing one or more courses based on current course progress. If needed, individual students and families will receive an invitation from their teacher to schedule an appointment for these conferences via ParentSquare. These notifications will go out to families later this week. All conferences will be conducted virtually.

NOTE: This minimum day was not on the schedule at the beginning of the year, and was not previously published.

If your student was not scheduled for a conference, you can reach out to their instructor at any time using any one of our parent communication tools to follow up on their progress. Please see our post below regarding contacting your student's teachers using Scholoop and ParentSquare.

Thank you!

A BIG Thank you to our Hollencrest PTSA

If you have driven down Merced Street in recent weeks, you have seen the outstanding decorations our PTSA put across the front of our campus to commemorate Red Ribbon Week. The school looked AMAZING and stood as a reminder to our community that Huskies are committed to remaining "Drug-Free".

Also, they sponsored an amazing drive-thru Trunk-or-Treat event which was a great success. Our students and families looked great in their costumes!

i-Ready diagnostic testing continues this week.

Students are currently completing the second of three iReady Diagnostic assessments that will be administered over the course of the school year. These assessments provide the school with valuable data as it relates to individual improvements in English and Mathematics and identify areas of focus for our instructional program. We will be distributing incentives to students who make positive progress on this round of assessments compared to their last attempt in September.

Contacting teachers using Schoolloop and ParentSquare

As we close out November and enter into December and January, the months are short and go by very quickly. If you have questions or need clarification regarding an assignment or your student's progress, the sooner we can get in contact, the better. There are a few different ways to accomplish this.

The most common tool for many families to track assignments, grades, and contact teachers is through Schoolloop. Schoolloop allows you to view the complete roster of teachers and assignments for your student's classes with quick-link shortcuts for sending an email, or "loopmail" as it is called in Schoolloop. If you already have an account, great! If you don't, you can create one in about one minute by following this link. CLICK HERE.

The next most common platform we have is ParentSquare. ParentSquare is our direct messaging platform which we use to keep in contact with families and make them aware of upcoming events and to help them stay current on all things Hollencrest. This is also the secure platform by which we will be sending our paperless reports cards. All parents receive ParentSquare notifications, but only registered parents will have access to advanced features such as direct messaging to teachers and access to secure documents such as report cards. A walkthrough to messaging in ParentSquare can be found HERE. If you have not registered, you can complete your registration using this link. CLICK HERE. Some of our teachers have also set up office hours and meeting availability through ParentSquare, so please be sure to register as soon as possible.

If you would prefer to virtually sit down with your student's teacher, our counseling team can help coordinate a meeting for you. Both of our counselors can be reached by accessing the "Counseling Corner" portion of our HMS website.
