Alice Carlson ALC: Rooted in 30 Years of Applied Learning
Standards Based Reports and Narratives
New Family Guide A-Z: Letter S
Alice Carlson uses a Standard Based Report (SBR) Card to assess and report student
progress. Instead of teachers giving the students grades, SBRs focus on a students
understanding and mastery of a learning goal. An SBR will list the most important skills a
student should learn in their grade and then denote the student's progress on each skill
from 1 (Performance is Below End of Year Standard) to 4 (Meets End of Year Standard). SBRs are distributed by teachers every nine weeks.
Did you know that they spend hours completing these reports for you? Please ensure you spend dedicated time reading the report and narrative.
K-2 reports and narratives are addressed to the parent. However, we encourage you to discuss areas of strength, focus, and goals with your child. 3-5 reports and narratives are addressed to your child. We ask that you allow them to read the report with you and discuss it.
MATHOWEEN: 10/27 from 5:00-7:00
Mathoween Theme and Student Flyers
New Family Guide A-Z: Letter M
Halloween at Alice Carlson is a bit non-traditional, which makes it all the more fun!
Mathoween is an evening event of math games and clever costumes. In the weeks leading
up to Mathoween, each class works together to create their own math game. On the night of
Mathoween, students are expected to “work” a shift for their class booth/game, and they
also get to play the games created by the other classes along with each of you. To make the evening even more fun, students come dressed in math-themed costumes. Think Acute Witch, The Count, a Pi-lot or Pi-rate!
Field Day: 10/28 from 12:30-2:30
Field Day Theme: Video Games Come To Life
Field Day Visitors and NO Early Dismissals
You are welcome to attend Field Day. Please come to the canopy door to check in with a staff member. Ensure your visitor tag is visible, indicating that you are checked in.
Because each field day team is made up of students K-5, we will NOT be honoring early dismissals after the event. Students will have designated areas to report back to, go back into the building, and get ready for safe release.
Field Day is held on the open sports field behind the school during school hours. True to
Carlson fashion, it is a unique event that gives students a chance to lead, work in a team,
use their imaginations, get moving and have a great time. Students rotate through stations
to participate in wonderfully novel games based on a chosen theme for that year. It is a
great way to foster a sense of community among all classes and age groups. Typically, 5th
grade students lead each team made up of K-5 students along with teachers and parent volunteers
