Lil Arties Boys Basketball

Online Registration for the 2023-2024 Lil Arties Boys Basketball Season is now open and will remain open until Friday, September 29th.

The Lil Arties Basketball League is a non-profit youth recreational basketball organization for boys in 2nd through 6th grades and is an extension of the Martinsville High School Basketball Program.


The registration fee per player is $75, and each additional sibling is $60. Siblings must be registered at the same time to receive the discount.


The 2023-2024 season will take place from November through February, with practices during the week and games on Saturdays.

Indy Ball Tryouts


Martinsville High School basketball, along with Lil Arties, invites all boys that reside in the MSD of Martinsville, in grades 3-6, to try out for Indy Ball, formerly Indy Hoops. Indy Ball is a competitive travel/school-based program where teams travel to local schools and play on Sundays from November - February. To qualify, players must attend at least one tryout shown below and participate in the Lil Arties league (register online at www.lilarties.com). One team per grade will be selected to participate in Indy Ball.

Upward Basketball Camp

Youth sports can be fun and challenging! With Upward Basketball Camp, you will develop athletic abilities and learn life skills that apply both on and off the court.


Upward Basketball Camp at Martinsville First Methodist Church offers premium play, principles, and purpose.


No experience? No problem! Beginners welcome!


Basketball Camp-with skill development through games and more--begins September 26 on Tuesday nights at 6pm to 7pm and runs through the last Tuesday of October.

The MSD of Martinsville is offering free after school tutoring. If you are interested in more information for your child, please contact your child's teacher.

Arrival

  • The doors open at 8:25AM, 10:25 on Wednesdays.
  • School begins at 8:40AM, 10:40 on Wednesdays.
  • We ask that all parents/guardians dropping students off remain in their vehicles during drop off.
  • We will have South staff members outside to guide the students into the school.
  • You can drop off students at the front of the building in the front drive or in the circle lot.
  • Staff will be located at both locations to assist.
  • Please be patient during arrival as we want to make sure that everyone remains safe.

Dismissal

  • Busses are loaded at 3:35PM
  • Walkers are dismissed and begin loading vehicles at approximately 3:45PM
  • Parents/guardians picking up students should remain in their vehicles during dismissal. Students will be called to each vehicle.
  • PreK, Kindergarten and Daycare students can be picked up in the circle lot. If a PreK or Kindergarten student has an older sibling at South, the older sibling would be picked up in the circle lot also.
  • Students in grades 1-4 can be picked up in the front drive. In the front drive, cars will be moved up in line once the busses have been loaded and dismissed.
  • Traffic in both locations will remain stopped until students are loaded safely. Staff members will be calling names so that students come to the vehicles.
  • Remain in the car rider lines and follow staff direction for movement.
  • Please be patient during dismissal as we want to make sure that everyone remains safe.

RSVP IN SKYWARD FAMILY ACCESS

RSVP (Returning Student Verification Packet)

Before the start of school on August 10, please complete the RSVP for your student’s Skyward Family Access. This ensures that all contact information is up-to-date in our system. In the event of an emergency, it is vitally important to have updated information in Skyward.

Attendance

To report an absence for your child, please call the office at

(765) 349-1486 by 9:00AM.


Doctor statements should be faxed to 765-349-5247 or given to the office.


Please make sure students arrive on time. The morning bell rings at 8:40 to start class. It rings at 10:40 on Wednesdays to start class.

Checking A Student Out Of School Early

Only adults listed on a student's emergency contacts will be able to check out a student from school. In addition, anyone picking up a child, will need identification to be able to check a student out of school. Students will be counted tardy if leaving school early.

Visitors

No visitors will be allowed beyond the front foyer area unless they have an approved, scheduled meeting. We will not be having visitors for breakfast or lunch. All visitors must have a background check on file in the office before volunteering.

WELL WEDNESDAY INFORMATION

The MSD of Martinsville will follow the same WELL Wednesday schedule as last year. The YMCA will continue to offer its regular YMCA morning childcare program at each school. However, if your family needs free child supervision before school on WELL Wednesdays, please contact the school principal or secretary. WELL Wednesday Schedule -- LINK


FREE SUPERVISION FROM 8:25-10:40 A.M., AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS:

If your family needs free supervision before school on WELL Wednesdays, please contact the school principal or secretary now, so your child can be included. If your child will be enrolled in the YMCA program, you do not need to contact the school.



YMCA CHILDCARE:

Morgan County’s YMCA and the Martinsville School District will continue to partner to provide before and after school programs. These programs provide adult supervision, homework help, activities, and snacks. Again this year, the YMCA is extending its services on Wednesday mornings from 6:30 A.M., to the delayed start of the school day.


The regular weekly schedule for before and after school care will not change. It will still be starting at 6:30 A.M., each day. For families who will utilize this program all week, the fee is $70 each week per student and includes the extended WELL Wednesday hours.


For families who are interested in utilizing the YMCA’s before school program ONLY on WELL Wednesdays, the fee will be $35 per student.


For all YMCA before and after school programs, families can apply for financial assistance. For questions about qualifying for financial assistance or program features, please contact Robin McDaniel at robin@bbjymca.org.

New Year, New Background Check!

Anyone wishing to volunteer in the classroom, help out with parties, or attend a field trip must have a background check completed before participating. This process can take time so please contact the office at least two days before your scheduled event. Request made at the last minute may prevent or delay participation in an event.

Title I Information

Federal funding has been made available through school-wide Title I services to South Elementary for the purpose of providing students with extra support in reading and language arts. This extra support is availabe for all students at South Elementary. Classroom teachers, Title I teachers, and instructional assistants will provide assistance in reading, language arts, and math through small group and indivdual instruction as children demonstrate need for support. Please contact Julie Sullivan at 765-349-1486 Ext. 1654 with any questions about support your child may receive.
