September Newsletter
The Newsletter is Going Green!
From the Principals
Dear Eisenhower Family,
We are off to a running start at Eisenhower Elementary! The kids are doing great transitioning back from summer vacation and the teachers are too! The construction project is making progress everyday and I can not wait until the first phase is finished, so that the Eisenhower community will be able to see how great our school is going to be! I hope to send pictures of the finished classrooms in an upcoming newsletter.
In our first newsletter, I wanted to remind you all that we have many exciting events and important dates that I don’t want you to forget. Please see the list below for those activities and events that will take place at Eisenhower Elementary throughout the month of September:
▪ Pre-K- 2nd Curriculum Night; 9/1, 6:00-6:45 PM
▪ 3rd-5th grade Curriculum Night; 9/1, 7:00-7:45 PM
▪ Labor Day/School Holiday (no school); 9/7
▪ Individual Student Pictures; 9/15
▪ Back to School Picnic; 9/18
On another note, I wanted to also take some time to review the procedures for visitors (both adult and non-student). We live in a very different time and it can often feel very foreign when compared to our own childhood memories of when we ourselves attended elementary school. I feel very strongly that one of my main responsibilities at Eisenhower Elementary is to create an environment that is safe and secure for all students to learn and thrive. Please support the Eisenhower staff by following the procedures for accessing the school building at arrival, dismissal, and during the school day, by checking in through the office and getting a visitor pass.
My door is always open; don’t hesitate to get in touch, and thank you for the opportunity to learn from and work with your children.
Sincerely,
Kelly McCollom
In the Library...
The library is off to a great start this year! After we finish all 28 rounds of orientation, we'll be focusing on reading for pleasure for the next few weeks! 1st and 2nd grade will be reviewing how to use the library while practicing finding a just-right book. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will be exploring genres and participating in Book Tastings, where they will have the chance to try out lots of awesome books before choosing a few. Pre-K and Kindergarten are busy getting used to the library and learning about how to take good care of library books!
Coinciding with International Dot Day, our reading challenge kicks off on September 14th, and we're celebrating Dot Day all week long! Every student will come to the library that week for art, writing, and discussion about how we make our mark on our school and community. And Tuesday, September 15th is a dress-up day... wear your dots!

Ike-A-Thon
Ready, Set, Go! Mark your calendars for our 3rd Annual IKE-A-Thon! The fun is scheduled for Tuesday, October the 6th. Our theme this year is “Building Champions” to go along with our school’s construction.
For those of you who are new to Eisenhower, IKE-A-Thon is our big fundraiser for the year. All of our students will be bringing home a pledge form for friends, family and neighbors to help support our kids and school by pledging money for our kids to run.
Last year we raised over $20,000! This money enabled the PTA to provide an art teacher for 2 nine week periods with all students participating once a week. The money raised also helps to fund all PTA activities throughout the year including our annual school picnic, field trip funds, classroom supplies, and movie night.
Our goal this year is to raise $20,000 in pledges. We will be giving out cash and prizes for top money earners and for top girl and boy joggers in each grade.
This cannot happen without all of our fabulous volunteers! You can sign up to help on the day of our IKE-A-Thon by going to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/70A0845A8AD23A57-building. For those of you who are unable to participate that day, not to worry…. We need you to help your child get their pledges.
Thank you Eisenhower families for your past support and we are looking forward to another successful IKE-A-Thon!
