Bataan Death March
After the surrender of the Bataan Peninsula, April 9, 1942, approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops were forced to march to prisoner of war camps. Harsh treatment of these men by Japanese solders and starvation as well as disease claimed the life of many Filipino and American troops as they treaded to camp O'Donnell.
By this time both sides were trying to decide what to do to help their side so the u.s. went with using the two pronged attack by going through the Solomon islands and cutting off Japanese positions.Also through the central pacific there was numerous amounts of invasions.in addition the u.s. was knowing everything the Japanese were planning to do by listening to Japanese radio transmissions knowing all there planes giving the u.s. an advancement.
battle of midway(JUNE4-7) & Chester Nimitz
During this battle which was 6 months after the attack on pearl harbor the japanese were defeated,with the u.s. taking 4 japanese carriers and 300 planes down during the battle.This was the battle is that finally ended the japanese expansion which the Japanese were taking over most of East Asia and Southeast Asia also.This battle was the battle that permanently damaged the japanese navy.
Nimitz was the one in charge during the battle that placed u.s. carriers to be waiting to suprise the japanese when they came to have air strikes on midway.
island hopping began after the battle of midway,it is when the united states started seizing places in the pacific.
the battle of iwo jima was fought because the us decided to invade the island because they needed a place close to the coast.But the japanese army and navy troops were there to fight back through difficult conditions.The U.S. won this battle showing that they won by raising the U.S. flag high to show victory.It was difficult to finally defeat the japanese in this battle because they had underground pathways and tunnels to help defend them from the U.S.
Okinawa (april 1-june 22,1945)
last battle in the pacific that used 287,000 troops from the U.S. against 130,000 japanese forces.This battle was the biggest battle out of all of the island battle and during this battle the japanese used many air tactics and brought out the Yamato to help try to defeat the U.S.
He led the u.s. in the southwest pacific war and led the u.s. in the Korean war also.

He was commander of the third army.Also he was leader behind operation cobra, the outbreak which released and first army and the activated third army across southern Normandy causing the collapse of the German army.
He increased the size of the u.s. army and He was chief of staff when the war first broke out and his job was to increase the size of the American army. Marshall advised until American forces had gained more experience.
