Scholastic Book Fair 2023
Our school library is committed to promoting a love of reading and
supporting teachers in delivery of curriculum at our school.
During the timeframe of October 16-27, 2023 we will host a Book Fair!
The purpose of this Book Fair is to encourage a love of reading in students.
Additionally, profits gained from the sale of these books will be used to re-invest in the renewal and ongoing maintenance of our school library collections. By annually purchasing new books and other library materials, we are able to always have interesting, motivating and engaging books for students to enjoy and for staff to use in support of their classroom instruction.
As a courtesy to our school community, our book fair vendor, Scholastic has provided this list https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dGBWnQOue81sPPKQz7HePEluTCM24f3-/view
of books you can expect to see at the Book Fair. Not all books on the list will make it to our book fair.
Our annual Book Fair is an optional activity--that is, it is not a requirement to
attend or participate in the Book Fair in any way. Our school always wants to
be sure to ensure a safe school climate. As you review this list of books,
please reach out to Principal Magnan at leigh.magnan@matsuk12.us with specific book titles or specific concerns you may have about books on the list.
If you decide you do not want your child to participate in the Book Fair,
please complete this Google form opting them OUT of the event before October 16, 2023. Also, help us help you in enforcing this request to opt out by talking with your child about not attending or participating in the Book Fair. Again, this is an optional activity. No one is required to attend the Book Fair. If you are OK with your student's voluntary participation in the Book Fair, no action is needed on your part.

LICE:
There have been cases of head lice reported in your child’s school. Head lice can happen to anyone. It is not a sign of poor health habits or being dirty. Please check your child at home for head lice, even if your child is lice free at this time, please recheck throughout the month.
Nits (lice eggs) are tiny, white, pearly eggs that attach themselves to the hair shaft close to the scalp. They do not flick off or move like dry skin. Live lice are small black bugs. If you have any question how to perform a lice check, please contact the nurse at 907-892-9705.
· Step 1 If you find eggs, try and detect where your child encountered the lice. Report to the nurse your child name and teacher. Even though they do not jump or fly, they can spread from one student to another by sharing combs, brushes, clothing, hats and in bedding.
· Step 2 There are many lice treatment shampoos on the market as well as other mechanical and manual methods of controlling the lice. All lice shampoos are not created equal. Medicated lice shampoo is the only approved method to kill lice. One treatment is not enough. Please follow the directions on the medicated shampoo you purchase to prevent re-infestation.
· Step 3 Bed linens and clothing including hats, coats, etc., must be washed the same day as the first shampoo. Items that can not be laundered can be placed in a plastic trash bag and stored for 2 weeks in the garage. Combs and hairbrushes, etc. must be boiled and/or cleaned in hot soapy water and left to soak overnight. Ponytail holders, bows and barrettes should be bagged for 2 weeks. Vacuum out drawers where infested items were kept.
· Step 4 Daily inspection of your child’s head after treatment is important for 2-3 weeks following treatment. All household members and other close contacts should be checked and treated at same time.
