Welcome Back!
It seems like only days ago that we were celebrating the end of another school year and the start of summer! This newsletter marks the start of a new year, full of hope and excitement. This past year, we celebrated Long Meadow’s 20th anniversary through the founding of the 20/20 Legacy Group, created by parents and staff and carried out with student leadership. This group worked on ways to make positive changes both at home and abroad. We accomplished many things this past year. We worked with local businesses to donate oral care products to a school in Puerto Rico, we donated over 1,000 pairs of socks to a homeless shelter for those cold winter months, we set a new record for making over 500 sandwiches for the St. Vincent DePaul Mission in Waterbury, and we raised funds to help provide clean, accessible water to a village in Africa, to name just a few! These projects were planned and carried out with students under staff guidance. This work was part of a purposeful effort to foster global citizenship, character education, and communication skills with an authentic audience through community collaboration. We hope to continue this important work into the 2018-19 year and leave a legacy of kindness through our good deeds.
Security at LMES
The following message is from the Region 15 Interim Superintendent:
We are pleased to announce the installation of the LobbyGuard Visitor Management System. This system will track visitors, volunteers and vendors who come in and out of our schools. LobbyGuard provides the district with the ability to utilize modern technology to enhance the existing safety plans and strengthen the entrance protocols.
The new procedure at our schools, after entering the building as you currently do, is as follows:
A) Once in the Main Office, all visitors will be required to sign-in to the building, via LobbyGuard.
B) You will be required to scan your driver license as part of this process.
C) Following the sign-in process, a visitor badge is printed and is to be worn at all times while on school property.
D) Any visitors who are not wearing a visitor badge while in the building will be escorted to the Main Office.
The badge is self-adhesive and will not damage clothing. The system is housed in kiosks that are located in the Main Offices, and are self-directed, similar to an airport kiosk, Prior to leaving the school, all visitors must return to the Main Office and sign-out using the LobbyGuard system. Main Office staff will be available to answer questions and provide assistance as needed. We ask for your cooperation as we implement this valuable safety tool. We hope you will find this added procedure a welcoming addition in the continuing effort to provide a more secure learning environment for our students and staff.
