Pastor Mary Beth’s Musings
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s the middle of Vacation Bible Camp week! Yes, we’re in the throes of Hero Central (see photos below) at VRUMC with 70+ children and almost as many volunteers dancing, singing (Jesus is My Superhero!), eating breakfast for dinner, learning that heroes have Heart and Courage (like Esther and Daniel), making capes and masks and muscles and generally just having a grand old time!
I have friends who have stories of coming to know the love of God through Vacation Bible School. (Our friend, Jim Mustain, has a blog post about his experience here.) For many people, an invitation to VBS/VBC is their first step on The Way.
This term “The Way” first appears in scripture in Acts 9 as Luke tells the story of Saul’s encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus. According to Fred Craddock, Luke likes to use the image of journey as a metaphor for what it feels like to be on a follower of Christ as God takes us from where we were to a new place we could not have gone without God’s call or leading.
As we continue on our Road Trip this Sunday, we’ll see where The Way leads Saul. It will not be where he expects to go!
I’m praying for you. I hope you’re praying for me! (And keep praying for VBC this week!)
Glory to God!

Road Trip Worship Series Passports
Be sure to pick up your Road Trip passport as we travel this summer with the first Jesus Followers in the Book of Acts. Use the passport to guide you through our nine-week worship series—both spiritually and during actual travels. Each week highlights scripture to read, along with space to journal about your personal Road Trip. The information also is available on the church website here. Share stories of your Road Trip on social media, #VRUMCroadtrip.
Vacation Bible Camp -- On Location
We’re taking Vacation Bible Camp on the road, well actually down the road, to Central Park in Lewisville for a free two-night experience from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 27-28. Invite friends and neighbors to enjoy this fun time with superheroes and discover the qualities that make us truly heroic in God. Dinner is included, along with music, games, super Bible stories, capes and masks, inflatable slide, catapult and more! Those who bring a friend will receive an extra ticket for the nightly drawing for Altitude jump passes. Complete registration here.
New Gospel of Luke Study This Month
Vista Ridge is partnering with The Salvation Army for Feed the Kids this summer. Volunteers are needed weekly to fill about 150 bags with packaged items: a salty snack, a sweet snack, a fruit snack and a bottle of water. Donations of the needed items can be left in the church kitchen. The filled bags are handed out to children by The Salvation Army.
