This week we will begin Multiplication. It is IMPERATIVE that your girls KNOW their multiplication facts quickly and accurately. Please spend time at home each night with some "old fashioned" skill and drill of facts. I will model a variety of strategies for your daughter. I will require the girls to TRY each strategy for a period of time. After strategies have been practiced, they will be able to choose the one that works best for them.
We will begin Westward Expansion on Monday. This will include the economic and geographic factors that influenced this movement. We will also learn about the technology of the day.
We will continue our Mixtures and Solutions kit. This week we will have an assessment activity to separate a dry mixture. Students should be able to complete this independently and successfully. We will then begin a focus on saturation for the remainder of the week.
We will continue to write several personal narratives. Our writing focus will be an assessment. Our focus on grammar will be commas in a series and correctly punctuating dialogue in our writing.
In reading, we are going to focus on making inferences and using text to support our inference. We will also be studying the structure of fictional literature.
