Lenten Prayer
Almighty and Everlasting God, You have given the human race
Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility.
He fulfilled Your will by becoming man
and giving His life on the Cross.
Help us to bear witness to You, by following his example of suffering
and make us worthy to share in His Resurrection.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Amen
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Week 3 was another fabulous week. It was lovely to see all the smiling faces of staff and parents as we started the week mask free!
Last Thursday, we celebrated our opening school Mass as a whole school community. Our Year 6 students pledged their commitment to our school to guide us through the year and the Student Leaders received their leadership badges. One of the highlights for me was welcoming our Year 1 students to their first whole school Mass and what a beautiful job they did of sitting and listening. The speech from our Head Boy, Christian Perkis, and Head Girl, Scarlett Hill, was a great reminder of what leadership should look like at St Columba’s. Their speech encouraged us all to set goals and strive to be the best we can be. I have challenged the staff to lead by example and set goals for themselves this year. Therefore, as parents and caregivers, what are the goals you plan on setting this year?
This leads perfectly into the beginning of Lent. Lent started this week with Ash Wednesday with students in Year 4 and 5 participating in Mass, while our Year 1 to 3 students held a Liturgy in the Kalyara Mia. During Lent we are asked to demonstrate that we are trying to be a better friend of Jesus and to help all of us get ready for Easter. So that we can get to know Jesus better we are called to spend more time in prayer and reflection. We are also asked to fast from something that is keeping us from being the kind of person that Jesus wants us to be and to help those who are in need.
On Tuesday, I farewelled a very excited group of Year 6 students, teachers and parents as they ventured off for a fun filled four day camp at Fairbridge. This camp is an important part of the Year 6 journey and is a great opportunity for our students to foster lasting friendships. Students participated in activities that enhanced their team building and leadership skills. As a newcomer to the St Columba’s school community, I was very impressed with our Year 6 cohort and I would like to thank the students for the outstanding behaviour and willingness to ‘have-a-go’ at some challenging activities. A big thank you also to Ms Purvis, Mr Beins, Mrs Jas, Mrs Caré and Mr McKenzie for assisting with camp.
Wishing everyone an enjoyable weekend!
God bless

Parents on Campus
Parents are expected to depart the school grounds in the morning at the ringing of the bell. Similarly, parents are requested to arrive no earlier than 3.00pm when collecting a child at the end of the day. Please do not sit outside the classrooms in the afternoon as it is becoming quite noisy and unsettling for students and teachers.
I strongly encourage parents and caregivers to utilise the Kiss and Drive option or meet children at the gates. This year, the only gates that will be open to families will be the tennis court gates and the side gate on Alexandra Street. Please be aware the gate between the office and tennis courts will only be for staff access. Please remember that walking through the Kiss and Drive during drop off and pick up is not allowed.
Staff will not be available to supervise students crossing the road after school. Parental supervision is required if necessary.
A reminder is given to all parents, caregivers and visitors that you must sign in at the Admin Office outside normal school times and scan the SafeWA QR code. If a child needs to be collected early, please come to the Admin Office to sign your child out and one of our lovely Admin staff members will collect your child from the classroom.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday
On Tuesday we celebrated Shrove Tuesday also known as Pancake Day. It is a traditional day before the start of Lent. Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter and was traditionally a time of fasting. On Shrove Tuesday, Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins). A bell would be rung to call people to confession. This came to be called the “Pancake Bell” and is still rung today.
