CPR makeup for seniors
Friday, February 7 is the CPR makeup day for seniors. Seniors will have the opportunity to makeup any missing session or the entire certification course on this day.
Specific seniors and their families have been emailed makeup information.
Most seniors at Joseph Case High School have completed CPR training in conjunction with Swansea Ambulance Corps January 6-10 to fulfill their graduation requirement for CPR certification.
Case was the first high school in Massachusetts to make CPR a graduation requirement.
BCC Enrollment-Palooza
Bristol Community College’s Office of Admissions in conjunction with its Financial Aid Office, Testing Center, and the Office of Academic Advising will be at Joseph Case High School on Thursday, February 13, 2020, offering an Enrollment-Palooza to seniors who plan on attending Bristol Community College.
Enrollment-Palooza is an "on-the-spot admissions" event that combines the initial stages of a student’s college enrollment into a one-day opportunity at Joseph Case High School.
Benefits of attending the Enrollment-Palooza are numerous. Besides the support of your school and the Guidance Department, participating students will:
- gain Admission to their program of choice
- schedule their placement testing appointment
- meet with an academic advisor to review their selected program of interest
- receive information about the FASFA financial aid
- have the opportunity to ask questions of staff professionals
- learn about the transfer programs offered
Seniors can register for an appointment to the Enrollment Palooza in the Guidance Office. Please see your counselor for more information.
Winter School: Year #2
Winter School is a second chance for students who have failed the first semester. It is an opportunity that offers students hope that they can pass for the year, maintains the integrity of the class grade, and gives the students the skills, concepts and knowledge they need to successfully pass the second semester.
Winter School is basically Summer School moved into the Winter at the end of 1st semester.
Students pay a fee, are assigned personalized lessons of study based on what they failed (integrity) first semester, and upon successful completion of all assigned lessons (skills, concepts, knowledge), receive a 65, the lowest possible passing grade for the first semester (hope).
This is all completed using Edgenuity, an online learning forum.
Guidance counselors will meet with all identified students during the week of February 10. Winter School officially starts on February 14 and will run through March 27.
Upcoming release time
- Wednesday, February 5: 11 a.m. release for students
- Wednesday, March 4: 11 a.m. release for students
Finally...our 20th and LAST 21CLE report.
The high school's 20th 21CLE report is published today, documenting our ongoing journey to help students progress in meeting the school's 21st Century Learning Expectations (21CLE). Individually, I have emailed each teacher and student with this data.
Each course reports out on at least one of these areas via the Term II report card. How your teachers assess students is documented in the comment section on the digital report card.
Teachers collaborate within departments to decide which three assessments during a semester will be used to gauge progress in any specific discipline. Students could ask their teachers what specific assessments were used to determine this.
Based on the specific rubrics in each expectation, students may also self-assess to see where they would rate themselves, then compare the reflection to their report card. Any disconnect creates an opportunity for teacher and student to have a deeper face-to-face discussion.
Students can also gauge where they are in specific disciplines in comparison with their YOG cohort. The next reflection would be to see how their cohort compares to others in the school.
Both the granular and cohort data are conversation starters for students with their teachers as well as what can students do to achieve the next level of progress or remain in a positive trajectory forward.
We will transition this spring to Visions of the Graduate and their corresponding expectations that will be reported out in a similar way, beginning this June.
