5th Grade Family News

Dear 5th Grade Family,

There is a lot going on this week! Miss Anderson's class will be taking Cougar Writes on Tuesday and FAIR assessment (computer based reading test from the state) on Thursday, October 1st. This week is also conference week. Please be sure to sign up for a conference. A special Sign Up Genius Smore newsletter was sent out earlier this week. Please be sure to read over it and sign up for a conference as it fits your schedule. We are looking forward to meeting all of you this week! We are also having the KCC Book Fair this week! Have a great weekend!

Miss Anderson's Language Arts Class

This week, students dove into our Bud, Not Buddy novel study. We are continuing our unit on Heritage and it fits right in with our novel study! Our story test on “Our Song” will be early next week, so make sure that students are reviewing at home. Students are welcome to check out a textbook, as long as it is returned the next school day. As always, please make sure your student is reading 20 minutes every day!

In science we will begin working on the marble roller coaster. The students will be given a design challenge to create their own roller coaster. This activity reinforces science concepts such as friction, velocity, gravity, potential energy, kinetic energy, and inertia. In Social Studies, we will learn about the seven different Native American cultural regions. STEM fair – this week the students are working on their hypothesis; it will be due at the end of the week.

FAIR Assessment

Students will be starting FAIR assessment on the computer with Ms. Anderson. FAIR is a reading assessment given by the state and helps determine comprehension level and areas where students can be challenged and continue to grow. Please be sure your child is well rested and has an excellent breakfast.
