Attendance Issues
Normally, I would come straight to the "few" that are having an issues, but unfortunately, this is happening across the board. I will be running an attendance report periodically throughout the week, and I expect to see an improvement. Be the Best!
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
What will change for Texas and CSISD? First, AYP and the waiver that the state has with the US Department of Education will go away. Texas must still annually assess students in reading and math in grades 3-8 and once in high school, and the state must assess students annually in science at least once the the following grade spans: 3-5, 6-9, 10-12. Districts and schools found to be unsatisfactory in student performance and/or graduation rates must still be identified and will fall into intervention. However, the state (not the federal government) will decide what that intervention looks like under ESSA.
This is great news for students here, in Texas and across the nation. The bill is more than 1,000 pages in length, so we will find out things in the legislation that are not so good. On balance, however, this is a real turning point for returning the power of educating students to the states while still providing meaningful and more appropriate accountability for schools.

Coaches for Cancer
CSHS & AMCHS Girls’ Basketball teams have teamed up for the 2nd year in a row to join the fight against breast cancer. Wilton’s OfficeWorks has donated shirts for us to sale to raise funds to donate to a local organization, Pink Alliance, that assists women during their breast cancer fight.
Join the fight with us by buying a shirt and attending our game on January 8th at CSHS. Shirts will be sold first come, first serve. Click here for the website and here for the order form.

What should we brag about or highlight? In your words, what makes OW special? If you feel like sharing, please send me your answer directly.
Check out this great video on Philosophical Chairs.
