NLMUSD To Host 3 COVID Vaccination Clinics

Vaccine Clinic Dates
The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, along with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and Albertsons, will be holding three vaccine clinics at District high schools in September and October. The first clinic will be held at Norwalk High School on September 18. La Mirada High School will host the second on September 25, and John Glenn High School will follow on October 2. All three sites will also host clinics for second doses of the vaccine 21 days following each date, with Norwalk High School on October 9, La Mirada High School on October 16, and John Glenn High School on October 23. El Distrito Escolar Unificado Norwalk-La Mirada, junto con el Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado de Los Ángeles y Albertsons, llevarán a cabo tres clínicas de vacunas en las escuelas secundarias del Distrito en septiembre y octubre. La primera clínica se llevará a cabo en Escuela Secundaria Norwalk el 18 de septiembre. Escuela Secundaria La Mirada será la sede de la segunda el 25 de septiembre, y la Escuela Secundaria John Glenn seguirá el 2 de octubre. Chromebook Support
If students still need a Chromebook, need tech repair, or have wi-fi issues, they need to report to room 1209 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during snack and lunch.

Family Workshops with Fullerton College
Register to Vote
Online pre-registration is available for eligible 16 and 17 year olds by visiting registertovote.ca.gov. California youth who pre-register to vote will have their registration become active once they turn 18 years old.
Pre-registration does not change the voting age, which is 18. Instead, it allows eligible Californians ages 16 or 17 to complete the online voter registration form providing sufficient time and opportunity to get ready to vote.

ACTIVITIES
Student Showcase: In honor of Latinx Heritage month, all NLMUSD students are encouraged to participate in the student showcase. Students may complete the submission form prior to September 24 to have your work considered for district recognition. Visual art work will be collected to be displayed at the district office. Written submissions will be compiled in a district published anthology. QR code to submit work can be found in the slide deck (slide 3).

ATHLETICS
SPORTS UPDATES
Boys Basketball: Practices will be held every day. All students who were selected to participate in boys basketball will be required to attend practice. Practices will begin at 5:00 PM. .
Boys Soccer Open Workouts: Every Tuesday & Thursday from 3:00-5:00 PM. Meet at the JV Baseball Field (near Foster Rd).
Girls Soccer Practice: Practices will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. All girls who were selected to participate in girls soccer this year will be required to attend practices.
Girls Wrestling Open Workouts: Every Monday - Thursday from 3:30-5:30 PM. JGHS Girls Wrestling Room.
Cheer Tryouts: September 27 - 29. September 27 & 28 (Clinic Portion) will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM. Meet near the 900 building. Tryouts will be held on Sept. 29 from 3:30-5:30 PM.

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS & MARGARET'S PLACE
WBC Public Health Task Force - Now Accepting Applications
The Public Health Task Force is an afterschool virtual peer leadership program in which Task Force members meet weekly and learn from DPH and UCLA physicians about COVID prevention, health disparities, behavior change models and are equipped to share information with their peers and others in their networks.
Students earn a stipend for their work and share their learning by delivering a presentation to their classmates through the science classes.
Applications are online, there is a link on the attached flyer. Two students from each WBC campus will be selected to participate.
The program begins on October 12 and it will continue weekly, Tuesdays 4-5:30 over zoom, ending just before the winter break.
The program is facilitated by a DPH Health Educator in Communicable Diseases and hosted over zoom by a certificated staff from Norwalk/LaMirada Unified. Parent permission is required and the forms will be made available to all applicants.
Applications are due next Friday, September 24.

Health and Wellness
Health On Wheels, the NLMUSD school-based clinic, is now providing FREE pediatric immunizations to qualifying students. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, social distancing protocols will be strictly enforced. All participants are required to wear a mask. Clinic hours are Monday- Friday 8:30am- 2:00pm at Waite Middle School. Please call the HOW clinic at 562-292-0760 to schedule an appointment.
