Veterans Day Tribute

Students, staff, and the HPE community express our gratitude and respect to those who have served, and those currently serving our country.

Information on how students and families can participate in this year's tribute was sent home Thursday. See attachment for reference. Responses are due to your child's teacher by October 9th. More details about the outreach for Indy Honor Flight will come after Fall Break.

Thank you for supporting the men and women who have served and are serving our country.

Media Center Volunteers

It is another busy year in the Harrison Parkway Media Center! Students are coming in every day for library lessons, book exchange and research.

I can always use more smiling faces and helping hands. If you have some free time during the day, please consider being a Library Media Center Volunteer. The parent volunteers help with a variety of tasks. You may check items in or out, shelve books, assist students in locating books on the shelves, make copies, or assist with processing new books. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Kristin Sager, Library Media Specialist, at ksager@hse.k12.in.us or 915-4210, ext. 1792.

If you would like to help, please make sure that you have a current background check on file and that you have completed the HSE Anti-bullying Training Webinar. These links are found on the Harrison Parkway Elementary website, under Quick Links : http://www.hse.k12.in.us/hpe/home.aspx

Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures - Safety

Students are to be dropped off and picked up at the front of the drive by the school's front doors. Please have your child exit from the passenger side of all vehicles. Students should stay in their seatbelts/safety seats until your vehicle has come to a complete stop and your child is ready to get out of the car. Please only dismiss and receive your child at the front of the school. Do not release students from the back of the line so they must walk past other cars releasing children. It is imperative that cars remain in a single line along the curb. Please do not attempt to pass cars releasing students as this creates an unsafe situation for our children. Please use extreme caution in our parking lot and drive in the morning and afternoon, as both are high-traffic times. Thank you for your part in keeping our children safe.

HPE Cafeteria News

When sending in lunch money for your child, please make sure to put it in an envelope with your child's name, (no nicknames please) student ID number, and their teacher.

Payments can also be made online thru Skyward as well.

If you are packing a lunch for your child, we do not allow soda or foods that need to be reheated.

Per HSE policy, students with a negative balance will receive a PBJ sandwich (turkey if there are nut allergies), raisins, and milk.

Due to limited space, we will can only accept 10 parents (including siblings). Please call the office by 9:30 AM. If you are ordering a lunch, please let the office staff know when you call in. Please do not bring in food from fast food restaurants. You must have a valid background check on file, have watched the anti-bullying video, and completed the video survey. Please do not use cell phones during your visit. Per HSE student private policy, taking pictures are prohibited.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns that you may have.

--- Mrs. Berling, Food Services Manager

Book Rental

All book rental is now past due. All payments made through Tuesday, September 15th have been posted on Skyward. You can send in a check made payable to HPE or make an online payment through the eFunds system.

If you have any questions or do not see your payment posted in Skyward, please contact Dori Morgan at 915-4210, ext. 1782.

Online School Directory

The online school directory is now available to all families in Skyward. This year the directory is based on an opt-in model. Families must choose to show their contact information in order to be visible in the directory.

To opt-in, click on "My Account" in the upper right corner of your Family Access account. From there, check the boxes for the information you wish to make visible under the School Directory section and then Save. Families can make changes to this section anytime throughout the school year.

Sign In Procedures

As a reminder, the sign in procedure at Harrison Parkway includes signing your child in or out using a computer. If you are signing your child out of school, please have your driver's license with you, as you will need it to complete the sign-out process.

Attendance Line Voicemail

If your child will be absent from school, please call the HPE Attendance Line by 9:00 a.m. at 915-4210. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, you may call the attendance line's voicemail anytime and leave a message. If you know your student will be absent for more than two school days for any reason other than illness, we ask that you complete a Prearranged Absence Form (available in the HPE office) at least one week prior to the absence.

Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.

Lost & Found

Harrison Parkway Elementary has a Lost & Found located outside of the Music Room for any lost items. If you child may have lost something at school, please check the Lost & Found. At the end of each month, we will be donating any leftover items to charities that serve people in need. Thank you!
