5th Grade Weekly Update
Happy Friday 5th Grade Families!
We had a short but action packed week. Lots of hard work on tests, projects and classwork. We are so proud of the 5th graders!

Math
This week we continued working on 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication using arrays, partial products and standard algorithm. Next week we will work on using ratio tables and rectangular arrays to help solve larger division problems.

Language Arts
We worked on the last part of Unit 3 in Grammar this week, continuing to prepare for next week's test. We will begin unit 11 in vocabulary workshop and test next week as well. Your students worked on main idea and supporting details during WIN time and we will continue practicing for morning work next week.

Science
Social Studies
The classes finished Chapter 4 with their test on Thursday. I am so proud of how well they all did! Next week we will begin learning about the New England colonies. In addition, the students will share their Black History projects next week. I look forward to seeing their presentations!
Phil's Challenge
Our spring fundraiser, Phil’s Challenge kicks off next Friday, March 1!
Raise Craze Registration is as EASY as 1, 2, 3!

1. Enter your student(s) name and select their homeroom (from the list). *
*While these pages are only accessible to people you share them with, for internet safety, our tech team recommends using first name and only last name initial.
2. Select at least 3 Acts of SERVICE (also known as Acts of Kindness (AOKs)).
3. Enter 5-10 email addresses of potential supporters.
Please note parents must create Raise Craze accounts with or for students.
Participation PRIZES:
- REGISTER by Thursday, February 29 may wear non-uniform sneakers and crazy socks (with their school uniform) on Friday, March 1.
- The first 150 students to register AND enter 10 email addresses:
- will receive a Phil's Challenge tumbler cup!
- The top 4 classes overall with the highest number of Acts of Service (AOKs):
- (every student within the top 4 classes) will receive a Phil's Challenge drawstring bag!
- The top 5 students to perform the most Acts of Service (AOKs):
- will receive a special lunch from the principals!
- The top class (in each division) with the most Acts of Service will receive a special treat from the principals!
- Primary (PreK-2): PJ Day and a Picnic at lunch and recess
- Intermediate (Grade 3-5): Ice Cream Bar Delight and Spirit Wear Day
- Middle School (Grade 6-8): Carnival and Cotton Candy and Spirit Wear Day
- PLUS! If we hit the $100,000 goal a GRAND PRIZE will be announced!

Color Run Information:
We are so excited for our Phil’s Challenge Color Run event on Friday, March 8 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the front of the school. The event will happen (RAIN or SHINE). The Color Run will not be cancelled. Parents are welcome to attend the event!
- Students should wear/bring:
- PE uniform bottoms
- This year’s orange Phil’s Challenge T-Shirt
- Please note: Teachers will distribute this year's orange Phil’s Challenge t-shirts to students closer to the Color Run event.
- Athletic shoes
- Water bottle with student’s name on it
- Parents attending or volunteering:
- We highly recommend you consider parking off-campus for an easier exit after the event concludes.
- Upon arrival for Phil's Challenge, please sign in and put on a visitor sticker which will be located at the front entrance of the school.
- There will be designated parent sections to watch the event.
- If the event is INDOORS (due to weather) the event will take place in the Emily K Center.
- We are still looking for parent volunteers for our Color Run- click here to sign up!
- After the event:
- All parents who attend or volunteer at the Color Run: Please plan to gather on the lower field or go through carline to pick up your student(s) after the event ends.
- Will we not be dismissing students from the front office or front sidewalk after the event ends.
