Announcements and Events:
There will be a brief Sophomore class meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 2:00PM in Room 317 to discuss options for next year's prom location and upcoming fundraisers. Snacks will be provided. See Mr. Davol or Ms. Porter with any questions or ideas.
To help Celebrate Black History Month, The Keefe Tech social studies dept will be showing “Harriet” Starring Academy Award winner Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman. Join us in the Auditorium today after school to learn why this American heroine belongs in our hearts and on the 20 dollar bill!
Attention Seniors: Students wishing to reserve a yearbook may do so for a $20 deposit or pay the full amount $60. Make checks payable to Keefe Tech. See Mr. Allain in Graphics for details.
Are you registered to vote? If you are 17 or 18 years old, stop by the voter registration table at lunch. Legal and Protective Services will be available to assist you with the online form. It takes just a few minutes.
There will be a mandatory baseball meeting in room 203 on Monday, February 10 th at 2:10PM. Those unable to attend need to see Mr. Rosano in room 203.
DRAMA CLUB AUDITIONS for this year's play will take place on Monday, February 10, Tuesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 13 from 2:00-3:00PM. Anyone wishing to participate in this year's play: Same Room, Different Story may attend any ONE of the audition days. Show up
to the auditorium immediately after school on any of those three days. See Mrs. Rector/Ms. Corcoran for questions.

The Acceleration Academy for the ELA MCAS exam is preparing to run this February vacation! (February 18, 19, 20)

School Counseling
Seniors who are planning to apply to 4-year colleges and universities should be working on their college applications, completing necessary essays and making sure they have connected with teachers about recommendations. Students should make an appointment with their School Counselor if they have not done so already. Deadlines come up quick and we want to make sure they everyone is on track.
Juniors and Seniors thinking about attending a community college - Save the Date for our Community College Forum on Wednesday, March 4th from 1-2PM.
Attention Juniors and Seniors The deadline to register for the March 14, 2020 SAT is February 14th. Instructions on how to register, as well as fee waivers are available in the Guidance Office. Register at http://collegeboard.com. Keefe Tech's CEEB Code is 220854.
Juniors - the next SAT dates are May 2, 2020 (register by 4/3/20) and June 6, 2020 (register by 5/8/20). The May date is an ideal time to take the SAT.
School Counseling Events:
We will be running a Verbal and Math SAT Prep course for students after February break that runs until the May SAT. More information is below and was sent home last week on how to register for the course. The Verbal session will be on Tuesday evenings beginning on February 25th and the Math session will be on Thursday evenings beginning February 27th. There will be 20 seats available in each course, first come, first serve. The cost is $100 for one course or $200 for both. Please register by Friday, February 14, 2020.
Course Selection is starting soon!
Course selection for students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will begin in February. Currently our academic instructors are making recommendations on course levels for students. These recommendations are based on current class performance, student interest, and ability to be successful in future courses specific to that subject area.
Students will be meeting individually starting the week of February 10th to review teacher recommendation, select elective courses and finalized student schedules for the 2020-2021 school year. Course verification information will be be home to parents/guardians after this process is complete later this school year. This is a great time to have conversations with your child about their future plans and how their course work at Keefe Tech can support them.

Summer MassBay Opportunity!
MassBay Community College is excited to offer the Summer 2020 STEM Sampler Workshops for *underserved high school students who identify as female.
The workshops are a five-day exploratory in Science (biotechnology lab work), Technology (robotics and web design), Engineering (engineering design), and Math (interactive, contextualized in STEM).
Preference will be given to rising juniors and seniors, and graduating seniors.
Program dates are July 13th-17th, 2020; 9AM-3PM at the MassBay Wellesley Hills campus.
This program is FREE and funded through STEM Starter Academy

Summer Counselors in Training Program:
Counselors in Training (CIT) program at the YMCA's STEM & dramatic arts camp in Natick this summer! All teens are welcomed too if curious or looking for a new experience this summer!
The program is designed for incoming 9th & 10th graders. Families can sign up for weekly sessions from June 22 – August 28 with certification granted to teens who complete 4 weeks of summer with us. The program combines leadership & 21st century skills with STEM & dramatic arts elements thrown in for good measure.
