Message from Ms. Eisen, Art Teacher
Hello York Avenue Families!
When we come back from our long weekend, the students will start their CLAY unit! This means we’ll be getting a little messier than usual in the art room. I am not providing smocks/aprons this year, so please feel free to send your child to school with an extra big T-shirt to wear over their regular clothes that can get dirty. Or if they have an apron or a smock, that works too!
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade will be doing one day clay projects. 4th and 5th grade will have two days for their clay projects. 6th grade will have up to 3 days! If a student is absent for their art class, they will be able to make-up their clay project for the next class.
Happy sculpting!
Best,
Ms. Eisen
Black History Month Oratorical Competition @ NPHS
All are invited to this free event at NPHS.
Mid-February Counselor's Corner
It’s beginning to feel like we might be on the brink of spring, covid numbers continue to improve, and the 100th day of school has come and gone! While these are good signs and offer some hope and optimism, you and your children may be feeling like a lot of us do and you are TIRED-physically, mentally, and emotionally! This has been a long haul!
Below are some helpful tips from one of my go-to resources: the Mental Fills Counseling Store to help nurture your child’s mental health. I know that some of these are easier said than done but start by choosing one and working on that for a week and then adding another.
If your child is demonstrating changes in behavior or asking for help, remind them that you are there to support them and that it is a sign of strength to ask for help. Please always feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Take good care.

February Reading Corner
NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION’S READ ACROSS AMERICA
This is a year-round program that focuses on motivating children to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone and for everyone.
Each month, books are recommended for elementary, middle grades and young adults around a theme. The titles featured include books that students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different than them.
February 2022 Theme: Explore Families and History
Some of the monthly featured books can be found in the YA library, the Lansdale Public Library or other libraries in the area.

STEM Activities for Home
A STEM activity is similar to science experiments for kids, but rather than simply involving science, the activity includes other elements that round-out the study and foster a love of exploration and discovery that children can take with them beyond school.
If you give any of these a try, please share pictures with us!
Kindergarten Registration
We are excited to announce that Kindergarten Registration for the 2022-2023 school year will begin on February 1st. All Kindergarten registrations can be completed online through the district website. Please use this link to begin the registration process. On the district website, you will also find additional information about Kindergarten. If you have any questions regarding Kindergarten registration, feel free to contact the main office.
February Lunch Menu
Please be sure to review the options with your child. They will tell their teacher their choice each morning.
Home & School Meeting News
One topic discussed was safety. The safety of the community is the most important goal during drop-off and pick-up. We all have a responsibility to see that every child is safe. In addition, we need to keep traffic moving to facilitate student arrival and dismissal in a timely way. It is imperative that the procedures below are observed.
Another topic of discussion was the need for volunteers. YA Home & School Association has many ideas for spring events. Please consider taking the lead or joining a group to help these ideas come to fruition. We appreciate any availability you may have. To get involved, please send an email to yahomeandschool@gmail.com.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Arrival
All drop offs in the car line are in front of the main entrance between the orange cones. Please pull your car up to the large sign carried by our 6th grade safety.
Do not park your car or exit your car in the car line.
Keeping safety in mind, please do not go around vehicles in front of you and do not attempt to back up your vehicle.
As the space in front of you becomes available, the next set of vehicles will pull forward and drop off their child(ren).
When in the car line, please practice patience. Parents should not exit their vehicle in order to keep the car line moving. Staff members are available to assist the students with their backpacks or any other item they need to get out of the vehicle.
Dismissal
Pull up between the cones for pick up. Do not park and leave your car in the car line.
You can move forward to pull up between the cones as the cars in front of you leave.
If you park across the street or elsewhere, please exit your vehicle and wait for your child on school property.
Please cross the street at a corner to return back to your car. Do not run across the street.
Please be careful when pulling out of your parking spot and watch for other vehicles and our walkers.
