Tarvin Times

Aug. 27, 2021

Trailblazers,

Another great week at Tarvin! Students are settling in and continuing to build relationships as they learn the new systems. We are so excited to see the Tarvin Learning Model coming alive with students communicating and collaborating.

All transportation changes need to be in the front office by 2:00 PM. Please call the office at 5120-570-8200. We need time to get the note to the correct spot before students transition. Do not email the teacher, because they might not see the email in time, since they are spending their day teaching. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

We are postponing the Dedication to a later date due to the rising Covid cases in the area. We would like the Tarin family to be able to participate and be safe when flying here.

I appreciate your support and hope you have a great weekend!

Together in Learning,

Christy Hilbun

Staff Shout Out

Our teachers and staff have really worked hard to make the beginning of the year special for our students. If there is a staff member you would like to give a shout out to, please complete this form and they will get an email with a certificate that stated "You Deserve this shout out because...." We are also going to print them out and post them in the work room for all to see. Thank you for your support.

Career Fair: November 19th, 8 AM to 9:30 AM

Parents/Community Members,

We are having our first annual Career Fair on November 19th from 8 am to 9:30 am. The students love to hear about all of the careers that they can choose from when they are older! Students are very engaged when they can see the tools/examples of work that is involved in various careers. The students would love to see what you do for a career! We need parents or community members in order to make this a meaningful and successful Career Fair. Due to COVID protocols, we will be having our Career Fair virtually this year. You can participate in one of two ways:

1. A 10 minute live zoom presentation on November 19th between 8 and 9:30 with a 5 minute Q&A following.

or

2. You can record a 5-minute presentation that will be shown at various times throughout our College and Career Readiness month (November). We will send you the platform to use to record.

If you would like to participate, please fill out the form below:

Standard Based Grading

While we are just beginning this journey of the new school year, we are ready to face the challenge and experience the rewards that will come with collaboration and commitment to academic and emotional growth. In the spirit of that journey of growth, I want to inform you of some changes to the way student progress will be entered into the Home Access Center for 4th and 5th grade. At Tarvin, standard-based grading will be for all grade levels including 4th and 5th grade.

Standards-based assessment encourages students to focus on the skills they are working toward developing rather than on the grades they are earning. The skills, or standards, come from the course curriculum. When using traditional grades-based assessment, teachers would evaluate student's progress through assignments, determine a numerical score for each assignment, and then record the overall score in the grade book. With standards-based assessment, each skill will be its own assignment in the grade book.

You will receive more information from your child's teacher during Paren Orientation on Sept. 9th.

I Will Change the World by.... Reflections Program

The Reflections Program encourages children to find their own voice through various mediums of artistic expression. With this year's theme, "I Will Change The World By...", students are encouraged to make their message clear through dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. Entry forms will be available in the front office and the Tarvin PTA Facebook page. All entries must be turned in no later than October 31. Students can turn in their projects, with their registration form to our Reflections submission bin in the community room or by email to tarvinptaarts@gmail.com. All entries will be reviewed in November and selected projects will be advanced to the regional level of judging. Questions? Contact tarvinptaarts@gmail.com. For more information: click here.
