George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum
The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University is dedicated to preserving and making available the records and artifacts of George H.W. Bush, 41st President of the United States. We promote civic literacy and increased historical understanding of our national experience, and foster a community of public service and volunteerism. We accomplish this mission by offering rich educational and public programs, original museum exhibits and access to our archival holdings.
The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum informs and enriches learning for all ages about U.S. history, the role of the presidency with special focus on the administration of George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, and enhances the learning environment through the support of literacy and education programs.
Important Connection Information
Distance learning programs are offered through video conference or recorded for playback anytime throughout the school year.
Selected video conference sites get face-to-face question and answer time with the presenter. Please submit up to three questions to Dr. Shirley Hammond, Director of Education or by phone at (979) 691-4013 two weeks prior to the event. We highly encourage you to submit questions as soon as you register for an event.

"George to George" Shaping the Nation by our Constitution by Thomas Borcher

Please join us as constitutional law expert Thomas Borcher emphasizes and discusses the specific role of the three branches of the U.S. Government: Executive, Judicial, and the Legislative branch. We will discuss how the Constitution has guidelines and established precedents for the president to follow. Examples of these roles will be given in this program.
Mr. Borcher will cover how George Washington, using the Constitution as his guide, established the Executive Branch during the first presidency. This creation of the Executive Branch set the bar that President George H.W. Bush met throughout his presidency.
Mr. Borcher will discuss George H.W. Bush’s decisions as Commander in Chief of the Military in the Gulf War as well as his integral role in the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Working side by side with Congress, President George H.W. Bush exemplified the cooperative relationship between the different branches of government, just as President Washington intended.

Join us as Hank the Cowdog, the Head of Ranch Security, teaches in a fun way about cowboys and horses in a new ranch life book. Saddle up for some fun as everyone's favorite head of Ranch Security gives readers a glimpse into the world of horses, ranch wildlife and the life of a working cowboy. Hank’s vibrant author John Erickson will sing songs accompanying himself on the banjo and read from various books using the voices of the characters. Reading is exciting with Hank the Cowdog stories! Ambassador Sichan Siv, former Deputy Assistant to President George H. W. Bush, will speak about his contributions on behalf of The President, and as a U.N. Ambassador. Also, President George H.W. Bush’s roles in diplomatic relations when he was the United Nations Ambassador and Vice President will be explained by Student Readers.

General John B. Sylvester is retired from the United States Army. He is a graduate of Texas A&M and the United States Army War College. He served in the first Gulf War and is remembered for his command of the famous Tiger Brigade of the 2nd Armored Division. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, The Defense Superior Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and one Silver Star.
Skip Hollandsworth and the Pursuit of the Story

Skip Hollandsworth comes to share his stories of investigative journalism and movie making. Come and learn how to know if there is intrigue or mere random acts at play in mysterious stories. He shares wisdom and inspiration through his stories.
He is the executive director of Texas Monthly and is an award winning journalist.
Young Spurs Essay Contest by Cornelius Foote Jr.
Grades: 9-12

Professor Foote teaches a wide variety of classes at the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. Outside of his teaching duties, Foote is Co-Director of the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, a 14-year-old event featuring prominent journailsts, authors and editors discussing all aspects of journalism and media. Last year, nine students from several Bryan/College Station High Schools were recognized at the conference for winning awards in the Young Spurs Essay Contest. Foote has a B.A. in government from Wesleyan University and an M.S.J. from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University.
