Week #7

Hi Folks - Well the band hit it out of the park with their performances on Friday night and especially at the Lebanon County Band Exhibition! The crowd went crazy for our show and I received many compliments from all over. The kids should be very proud of their accomplishment. Unfortunately, the night was cut short by lightning and rain. I'm sorry we did not get to see the other high school bands perform, but I was impressed with the contagious energy and enthusiasm of our ELCO kids as we hunkered down in Cedar Crest's gym. Hopefully you caught pictures and videos on social media of our ELCO Band leading songs and cheers. The kids also got a pre-wash getting onto the buses to come home. It was a night they will never forget.

This week we head to the great state of Mount Joy to take on the Donegal Indians and the battle of the war chants. The football team is on a roll and we hope it continues. It is Donegal's Homecoming night, so we will be performing pre-game on Friday. Report time on Friday is 4:30pm, Inspection is at 4:45pm and Departure will be 5:00pm. Students may stay after school and a meal will be served at 4:00pm.

As always, if you have any questions, please email Mr. Fair

A BIG THANKS to all of the parents who helped out not only for our performances this past weekend, but also at the LLMEA County Chorus auditions. Mrs. Fair and I realize that it was a LOOOOONGG day on Saturday, but we are ever grateful for the help with food, equipment, organization, and execution of everything this past weekend. Thank you for the food, treats, cookies and everything else you provide for the band. We can not do all of this without your help! Mrs. Fair and I received many compliments from directors on how helpful the parents were and how well they were treated. You have helped to make ELCO the place to be for auditions and festivals.

Meal on Friday

The meal on Friday will be chicken tenders and mac & cheese. The meal will be served at 4:00pm.

Humbled and Grateful

On Saturday night at the band exhibition, I was awarded the favorite band director in Lebanon County. I understand the students and parents filled a jar with money for me to win. I am very humbled and grateful to receive this award. We have had many good times this season and this is some icing on the cake. It is a privilege to teach your kids. Hopefully they are enjoying their musical experience and learning some life lessons as well.

Pick-up After Events

Just for clarification, students should be picked up immediately following all events the band attends. The pick-up location at the high school is on the front driveway at the band doors (door #28). For away football games, the staff will alert you and the students via Remind on the bus when we are approximately 20 minutes away from the school. Please park on the front lawn or district administration parking lot, NOT along the front driveway to accommodate the buses and band trailer pulling in. Once the buses have left the driveway, you are more than welcome to pull up to the door.

Please make sure you have the proper arrangements made to transport your child home after we return. The band staff cannot leave until every child has left the school campus.

Attendance Policy

I've had a number of questions regarding attendance at football games and other band performances. It is my hope that all band members will attend all of the performances posted on the schedule during the marching season. It is very difficult to perform at our best when there are members missing. Each performance is worth a grade for band. Students should not miss a performance except in cases of illness, death in the family, or religious exception. I realize many of the band members are also participants in fall sports. It is the responsibility of the parents to make sure that their child has transportation to the football game after a sporting event in order to perform for halftime. They may even march the show in their athletic uniform if necessary. This requires planning and preparation ahead of time ensuring your child has their uniform, instrument, music, and any accessories ready to go or brought to the game by another band member.
