A Monthly Update for Meadow Ridge Families

Principal's Message - January 2021

Happy January, Jaguar Families!

As lovely as it was to have some time to recharge over our holiday break, it has been wonderful to get back in the swing of things here at school. I have been so impressed with how quickly our students rediscovered their groove with our routines and has been a nearly seamless transition back to school. I hope our Jaguars who are attending school remotely have had a smooth shift back into their own educational routines as well. No matter how our Jaguars are attending school this year, I am confident that 2021 will provide ample opportunities for all of our students to shine!

Our first few days back at school were spent providing students with "refreshers" about things like hand washing, wearing masks, and line-up procedures, so it makes sense that I would share a couple of reminders for families as well. Please be sure to send kids to school with warm winter clothing, a bottle of water, and with their health attestation complete. All of these items help kids have a positive and successful day at school. Additionally, I'd like to offer a friendly reminder that we continue to limit visitors on campus. If you are not in a vehicle and waiting to pick your child up from school, please wait up at the fenceline along Freya. Masks are required for anyone on campus, so please be sure to have one in place if you are not waiting in a vehicle.

Finally, if your child is showing symptoms please be sure to keep your child, as well as any siblings, home. We are working hard to keep our classrooms open and need every family's help to continue on in the success we have had so far. Thank you so much for your cooperation with these items...we truly appreciate it!

This month's newsletter has LOTS of information for you. It is my hope that this information is helpful to you and that it serves to help families feel connected to what is going on here at Meadow Ridge, as well as with our district overall. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please give me call or send me an email...I am here to help! :)

Best wishes to all of our Jaguar families for a PAWSOME 2021!

DW's Corner

2021...Hard to believe it's here, yet in other ways I feel like it's been a long time coming. I want to begin the year with a note of gratitude. Thank you. Thank you for sharing your children with me every day. Thank you for supporting our fellow students and families with the Tree of Sharing. I was worried this year that people wouldn't be able to support one another like they'd done in years past. But I was wrong. People, angels really, came forward like never before. Tags were taken, businesses stepped forward, churches called to offer support, the sheriff's department held Holidays & Heroes in times of COVID. It was all overwhelming in the best way, and humbling.

So gratitude....that's what I am filled with and what I am focusing on. As I read once, "where focus goes, energy flows."

I'm so thankful to work in this community, in this role. Stay well. Whether your student attends remotely or in person, if you need support, with mental health, or basic needs, please call or email me at

In the meantime...Stay kind, be brave, and remember...we can do hard things.

Meadow Ridge PTO Update

Our PTO has been busy this fall! Click here to read all about the happenings, as well as how you can participate in this wonderful group. Our school wouldn't be the same without the efforts of our Jaguar parents and families. Join us for our next meeting (held virtually, of course) on Monday, January 11th at 6:30pm by following this Zoom link:

Need to Retire a Flag? Use Our Flag Depository!

Thanks to the generosity of Mead Boy Scout Troop 203, we are now the proud owners of a flag depository. A flag depository is a place where you can bring an American flag that is faded, ripped, or beyond repair to be retired respectfully. The deposited flags will be collected and retired ceremonially by Boy Scout Troop 203. You can deposit your flag at the office lobby at Meadow Ridge Elementary School. Read more about what goes into a flag retirement here.

Thank you, Boy Scout Troop 203!

Coming Soon: Mead School District Educational Programs and Operations Renewal Levy

Special election ballots in the Mead School District include Proposition 1, an educational programs and operations levy that funds many different areas that fall outside of state-funded basic education. This is not a new tax, but would replace an expiring EPO levy with a cost of $2.00 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation. Funding from this levy covers items our community has come to expect of the Mead School District such as extra-curricular activities (sports, music and clubs), elective courses, staff for smaller class sizes, career-track and work-based learning opportunities and student support like nurses, para educators, counselors and social workers. Staying Engaged When Students are Quarantined

By now, most families are well acquainted with the routes our teachers are using to communicate with students in the event of an absence. In addition to our old standby of email, we are using SeeSaw (for grades K-2) and Google Classroom (for grades 3-5) to share classwork/homework expectations for students when they are absent. Please note that our elementary students will not be using Zoom to remotely attend class in the event of an absence, with the exception of our students who require specially designed instruction. This is in alignment with the expectations set forth by our district earlier this year. Thank you for your understanding!

Important Dates to Remember

January PAWS Awards

This month, we will be returning to our "Menu of Choices" option for our PAWS award. This was a big hit with students in November, so we decided to bring it back! Student names will be drawn for PAWS awards on Tuesday morning and they will have the rest of the week to redeem their prize. Students get to choose one selection from the menu to complete by the end of the week. We are excited to celebrate our PAWSOME Jaguars all month long!

Dressing for COLD Weather

There is no doubt about it....cold weather is here to stay! Please be sure to send your Jaguar to school with appropriate winter clothing each and every day. Hats, gloves, waterproof shoes or boots, and coats are all essential gear for our school day. If you need any assistance with providing these items for your child, please contact DW (our social worker) at 465-6637 or
