News from the nest
Desk of the Principal
Greetings,
It is that wonderful time of the year where we can sit back and reflect about what we are thankful for. I am thankful for the wonderful students that you send us each day. The students bounce off the bus energetically each morning and always greet me with a smile. They are excited to show me the many wonderful things that they are learning in the classroom. I want to thank you parents!
- Thank you for your support
- Thank you for all your hard work and dedication
- Thank you to all the parents who volunteered and gave us help when needed
- Thank you to all the parents who regularly looked through students' backpacks for notes and messages sent home
- Thank you to all the parents who made sure their children spent time reading at home
We can't do it alone! As I have stressed many times that one of the biggest indicators of a child's success in school is parental involvement.

Parent Survey
From the office of Dr. Nadine Sanders, Tuscarora School District’s Director of Curriculum:
Dr. Sanders would like to inform each parent that the district has posted a “Parent Involvement” survey on the district’s website and encourages each of you to participate. Location of the survey is on the main page of the district’s site; left hand side, click on Parent Involvement Survey. The survey will then appear. This is a simple survey that will take just a few minutes to complete.
It is the hope that this communication will address any concerns of our parents and families within our schools. Thank you for helping to make the district the best it can be.
Health and Wellness
With the cooler temperatures and the crisp air, sickness is beginning to hit our families and school. As you give that last hug and kiss to your child before they leave for school, I encourage you to make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather. Unless it is raining, most likely recess and gym class will be outside. Please, make sure they have a warm jacket, hat and gloves if necessary.
Cold and flu season are upon us so I want to remind you that germs are spread very easily by coughing and sneezing.
Always cough into your elbow or tissue and then wash your hands.
Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes.
Remember to wash your hands before you eat.
Eat a well-balanced diet.
Get plenty of sleep.
These are all VERY important to keep us, and our children, healthy.
As always, if your child has flu-like systems or diarrhea, vomiting or fever I ask that you keep your child home. Your child must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
SCHOOL POLICY HIGHLIGHTS - PLEASE READ!
STUDENT ARRIVAL
Student’s arrival time to school is from 7:20 - 7:40 AM.
Classes for students begin at 7:40AM. Any student who arrives after 7:40 AM will be marked as “tardy”. These students MUST be brought into school by the parents and MUST stop at the office to be checked in and admitted to school. It is very important that students stop at the office if they arrive tardy so that accurate attendance records can be kept.
STUDENT DISMISSAL
Afternoon student dismissal begins at 1:50 PM. Remember that if your child is picked up before 1:50 PM without a reason, the time will be marked as an “unexcused early dismissal”. Family emergencies and doctor appointments are excused.
Please try and contact the school prior to 12:00 with any dismissal changes.
ABSENT NOTES
Any student who has been absent from school is required to bring a note signed by his/her parent/guardian stating the specific reason, and the date(s) of absence within three (3) days of returning to school. Please include child’s last name on all notes.
If a note is not submitted to the school office within three days, the absence will be considered unexcused.
VISITORS
Due to security measures in all schools and in order to maintain an effective education program for all students, ALL VISITORS and VOLUNTEERS MUST REPORT TO THE OFFICE before going to another area of the building. You will need to sign in and take a visitor badge. This badge should be worn at all times. All appropriate clearances must be submitted to the district office before volunteering for any school day event, which includes field trips.
PARENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ACCOMPANY CHILDREN TO THEIR CLASSROOM!!
EDUCATIONAL TRIP FORMS
An Educational Trip Form must be submitted BEFORE the student is out of school for any "out of town" absence, whether it is for one day or one week. These forms are available at the school office as well as on our website. If this form is not submitted, the absence will be marked “unexcused”, even if we receive a note following the absence.
